My baby is now 9.5 weeks old and for the past 2 weeks she's been crying her eyes out when we put her in her car seat. She cries the entire way anywhere and we are very lucky if the car makes her calm enough to snooze a little because she mainly doesnt, she stays up and cries so intensily that today i was worried she'd pass out because of her shrieking.
Its the same chair she was in before and she used to remain calm and quiet but she wasnt so aware of her surroundings then as she is now. She starts crying once we put her in it although her fave song is playing loud in the car before we so and keeps crying until she sees me opening the door.
I dont know what to do, its so hard to concentrate on driving when your baby is screaming her head off, its heart wrenching and an so worried she'd seriously pass out from crying so hard. Its so hard to finally open the door to see your baby all red, teary and sad looking
My mom is suggesting we place a tablet against the back of the car seat so she can look straight at it and then play her favorite song from youtube so she can see the video and colors (she does notice those when i tried to hold my phone infront of her) but i'm not sure that it would work and i dont want to get my baby hooked on tech gadgets at 2 months of age!

I thought of trying a mirror but I normally place her behind my car seat because that's where I can access her in our parking, people park too close to the other side and their is no parking lot next to the driver's side

oh it's a specific car mirror, I thought you just stick a mirror between the baby car seat and the actual seat. I will check if it's available at Babies R Us because I've never seen one here before

I tried her favorite music and white noise and it doesnt work, just got home now and i almost cried myself she was screaming her head off, she dozed off twice while crying but then wakes up and finds herself alone and screams again. Tried talking to her and it didnt work either. She still doesny hold onto stuff if ahe grasps something she lets go of it and she doesnt take pacifiers either. I dread walking towards my car now

Mirrors are a parental choice but yes, in a crash, they can come loose because they're just held by velcro. Usually it's recommended that you get a lightweight one and Brica makes one that's recommended often.
Have you tried cracking the window, white noise, singing or music? Some kids just hate the car and it sucks BAD (I had a screamer this last time) but she really isn't going to cause herself harm. It's just incredibly nerve wracking.
Have you made sure it's nothing physical like the straps rubbing her neck, a fold in the material, anything sharp or rough on the seat?
My second child was a car seat screamer. It got better around 18 months. Until then, we just didn't go on many long drives. The drive to and from daycare was 5 minutes, and had it been any longer, I probably would have switched daycares. A pacifier helped some, and white noise. I just turned on the car radio to a spot in between stations, and blasted it very loud. We tried to time long drives during his nap time so he would fall asleep. Good luck!

I have not seen any secured with just Velcro. That just seems like a bad idea. Do you actually stick the Velcro to your car's seat? No way I am ruining my interior (selfish).
Ours (and all the ones we looked at) were secured two ways. There were straps that wrapped and anchored both horizontally and vertically (like a ribbon on a present, if you will).

Get outta my box! Some attach better than others, for sure. Many you loop a strap under your headrest and over the top and the velcro stick to each other, kwim? I'm not mega anti-mirror (we use one) but techs are always clear that they aren't crash tested at all so you just have to understand that it could come loose and if it did and smashed into the kiddo's face, it could be bad news.
it definitely isn't something physical because I checked, she actually understands now when I'm about to put her in the seat and starts crying right when I lower her into the seat!
I tried music and white noise today..the super loud white noise got her attention for a very short while and then she cried again although at home when she gets colicky I use white noise right next to her ear and she calms down instantly and might drift to deep sleep but in the car nothing seems to work...I'm loosing my mind...at this point the noise is only working at muffling the crying sound so that I don't drive like a crazy person..breaks my heart

Is she in an infant seat or convertible? By chance does she have any acid reflux issues? It's common for reflux babies to be aggravated by the angle and shape of many infant seats. You may want to try a convertible seat if you're not using one already.
I've heard some kids just hate the car seat, but for some it's an issue with the infant seat - they like convertible seats better (no personal experience on that end - we used a convertible from birth and DS always liked it). You'll have to switch to one eventually - maybe it's worth trying one now.
I tried white noise in the car's speakers today at defining volume level and she fell asleep in the car, once she slept I dropped down the volume but kept it playing until we got to DC. That worked today!
I don't believe she has reflux, her swing has the same shape as her car seat and she loves it. The whole crying in the seat only started recently and it would start at first when we would close the door after strapping her, then she started crying when we start strapping her in and now she cries when we put her in because she realizes what's going to happy. I think she just gets scared and feels alone in it because the moment she sees me when we reach our destination even before I pull her out of the seat she stops crying.
I have a maxi cosi pebble seat

Cant afford to get a new chair right now anyway but i dont think it would make a difference she cries like she is scared/sad not like she's annoyed and she calms down when she sees am there so i dont think the chair js whats bothering her. Upper loud white noise is somewhat making her sleep kn the car, she wakes a few times but its much better than before

OMG, an amazing update! I shared it on my post on babies 3-6 months but thought I should update you ladies too
Our neighbors bought our baby a fabric keyboard that plays music and notes and animal sounds when touched with a little shatter proof mirror in it and lights and it can be tied to the crib or plaid on while on the floor. I tried putting it in her lap today and pressed it a few times before driving off and it kept her tears free! (I tied it to the seatbelt so it doesnt fly away in the car) Kept turning back to press it at traffic lights and eventually she kicked it off her lap up against the back of the seat and she liked the fact that the back was bright green and kept kicking it (on the way back i will tie it upright to the back of the seat so she can foot click it.
No tears! No screaming, she started fussing right around the corner from DC, i guess thats when she had lost interest in the plain bright green back of the keyboard so i will make sure it stays still. But i'm loving the fact that i didnt feel horrible all the way to DC today or that i would crash into something and that she wasnt miserable and i didnt have to listen to Bingo was his namo or white noise on the speakers at deafening levels and was able to listen to the radio, not that anything good was on anyway but Hey! The score is Mama 1- Baby troubles 0 in my score book for today!!!!

ok so just to put an end to this thread, it seems that when she is sleepy and tired or a little hungry, nothing settles her down in the seat until she sleeps (if God is looking down on me!) or until we get home or to DC.
if she is ok, the little fabric piano doesn't work 100% so I stick in her rattle & soft fabric bugs book and she is pretty much occupied the entire trip and I keep her window open, so this seems to work and save my sanity if she isn't cranky to begin with. This only started working now because her grip got better
