  I have a Canon eos rebel t3. I love it. I haven't taken a class, and find it super easy to use!!

  We have a Nikon d90 and love it! Price cans range any where from $700-$900. It's one of the older models but you can use older lenses with it. I think the newer model that is comparable is the 5000 series but you can only use new lenses with it.
  My DH can use it to its potential more than I can. I would LOVE to take a class! We have a Mac as well and right now we are using iPhoto for basic editing. I've heard good things about Aperture.

  Also check out groupon for Flying Photo school for online classes. It doesn't even need to be in your state because it's online. They were really easy and fun.

  Before you purchase your camera check out the prices on Adorama.com. I bought DH's Nikon there and got an amazing price.
  We also brought our camcorder from them. They had a package deal that came with a bunch of accessories. We ordered the camcorder on a Sunday afternoon and it was on our doorstep the next day! We weren't expecting that!
