I just posted little man's stats in the 4 month thread, but he is at 24 lbs 10 oz and 27 3/4 inches. He was born at 9 lbs 15 oz and 25 inches.
His doctor says this is more weight gain than they like to see and he is at the weight of a one year old. She suggests cutting out all MOTN feedings and, since I'm going back to work next wk and he will be getting a bottle, ensuring he is limited to a max of 36 oz a day.
So, on the one hand, she may be a little right. The kid spits up more than I think is normal and I think it's due to comfort nursing or nursing to sleep when he is not truly hungry. I do think I should limit that. He wakes usually two times a night and I usually nurse him back to sleep. And truthfully, he only sucks for a min usually so I know he is not actually in need of a feeding. I think he tends to have one actual feeding around 430 am every day. So perhaps I should avoid nursing him the other times that he wakes.
But, on the other hand, I feel as though it makes sense for a child who is off the chart for height to also be off the chart for weight. I can't MAKE him too tall by feeding him too much, so his height just is what it is. And why shouldn't his weight follow along?
I guess I just thought it'd be nice to hear any thoughts you ladies might have

I appreciate your input - thanks!
ETA: I don't actually think he is too fat. I'm inclined to think the doctor is raising concern over nothing. I too was a large baby and I thinned out just fine as I got older. I've never had any issues with being over weight as a child or adult.
Re: Is my baby too fat?
@aimeefarrahfowler thank you! Just read it. One of the first things this doc has said at both appts was "some people say too can't over feed a breastfed baby, but that's not always true."
There are actually 3 docs in the practice and I had never seen this one with my first son. So far, I'm not impressed with her. I think our next appt is with one of the other docs who I like much better so I'm definitely interested to see what they say about it (at 6 mo), perhaps he will slim down by then anyway.
@usernameedit he is pretty hit or miss with the paci. If he is very drowsy, he may accept it, but when fully awake he usually gags and rejects it.
She didn't really go over the curve, per se, she just reiterated he is off the chart for both height and weight (the nurse gives a sticker with that info before the doc comes in). The way she made it sound seemed as though his weight gain was excessive even for the curve he is on (not sure if that makes sense). I probably should've clarified more. I guess as she was saying these things, I was sort of disagreeing with her in my head and not taking it too seriously. I didn't feel there was much sense in openly disagreeing with her because I assume you can't change their opinions. Hmm I guess this pedi relationship is not a very good one at the moment.
DD1 was a very chubby baby, 90% in height and weight, with lots of rolls everywhere. I asked my pedi if she was too fat. He said absolutely not, that they don't even consider babies to be overweight until after age 2. Before 2 they just want to see consistent height and weight curves and good weight gain. I wouldn't worry, DD1 thinned out a lot after she started crawling and again when walking. So I'm team ignore the advice. Can you call back the office and tell them you're concerned about the weight issues that was raised at the check up and that you want to discuss it more with your regular doctor to come up with a plan, this way you'll get a second opinion .
My dude definitely has the rolls, haha
27 inches long 14 lbs 8 oz born 8 lb 2 oz! Every babe is different as long as hitting correct milestones no worries!
@pistolpackinmomma I'm not sure about this - I need to do some reading about it maybe. I do have a very abundant supply and I don't think he ever really empties either side, but I try to alternate sides at each feeding. He only needs one side per feeding. So maybe he is not getting hind milk with me switching each time..?
@GracedGuest thank you!
