Probably dumb, but I need quick advise

P has some major congestion, an my heart is just breaking for him. He can't stay asleep and he wakes up unable to breathe, but is smiling through it.

We got a humidifier with vapor steam. The instructions say to consult a doctor prior to using the medicated liquid for children under two. I realize this is probably just a precaution, but...thoughts? Advise?

(We've bulbed and salined- works for 5-10 minutes)

  • I'm pretty sure you can still get some benefits from using it without the medicated liquid.

  • I second the nose frida. DS had a nasty virus last week and it is amazing what the nose frida can suction out. They sell it at Target now.
  • If you can't reach the doc, nose frida, baby Vicks rub, sitting with him in a hot shower, and keeping his head elevated are all things you can do.

  • Vicks makes a vapo product that plugs into the wall. Safe for use for babes over 10 lbs. I used one when my nose was so stuffy I couldn't sleep. Amazeballs.

  • Thanks all!

I freaked and used the humidifier by itself and pulled him into bed with me. He's better this morning, but we are still going to need something tonight. I'll definitely look into this

  • I just saw my doctor on Sat with a concern about congestion. He said basically everything that pp have said: humidifier, saline drops. He also suggested a 'poor mans' humidifier would be to leave a hot cloth on the crib because the water will vaporize into the air overnight, creating the same affect as a humidifier. He also suggested putting a small pillow under the crib sheet to have her sleep on an incline.

    Hope your LO feels better.
