Icky Bath Toys

You know the little squirty ducks/frogs/fishies/etc. that get mildewy inside after awhile even when you squeeze all the water out after every bath? Does anyone have a brilliant solution for cleaning that crud out? Or should I just toss the ones that are getting mildewy?

I figured if there is anyone who would know how to clean these annoying little toys, it would be someone on here.....so if you do, please help a girl out! :) Thanks! Ugh, why do they even make those toys anyway????

  • I threw them all out.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • We tossed ours too and I most likely won't get more. Just seems like a waste and dd is really into those foamy/sticky letters and numbers now.

  • I had a feeling that would be the verdict.....*glances over at basket of icky bathtoys awaiting their fate*.....I shall never buy that type again (and ask that no one gift us w/ them either....I think these were all gifts actually). The hot-glue idea is intriguing.....

  • I tossed all the ones we had. Now DS1 has the foam letters/numbers, bathtub crayons, and cups. He's on his second set of the foam things, I'll probably buy new every few months or so as he plays with them more.

  • I try to toss and get new ones every six months. But honestly an empty water bottle and over sized souvenir cup from a baseball game are their favorite bath toys. The fancy ones we usually get as Christmas presents and I break them out slowly

We have bath toys my kids never play with. They prefer travel shampoo bottles and bowls and cups. Those I can throw in the dishwasher. Yay.

  • Yeah we threw ours out too.  I won't buy them anymore.
  • Toss. I don't buy them, but we seem to get them as gifts a lot. DS loves to squirt them, so I just can't bring myself to plug the holes  ;-)  We only get about 2 out at a time, and throw them away pretty regularly.
  • Unless it's a regular toy that comes in the bath (action figures or whatever) I toss pretty much any bath toy once it starts to get funky. Most of them are so cheap or disposable it ends up not beinf worth the trouble to really get them clean.
  • I toss them if they get gross.  Most have had the holes filled with hot glue, which solved the mold issue.

  • Squeeze some hot glue into the hole when you buy new ones.  Eventually the glue will loosen and water will get it but, they last A LOT longer than they would without it.
  • Toss. I seal ours with hot glue, but after time they still get gross.
  • I'm usually Team Toss on things like this but DD has these two squirty turtles that she loves that came with a huge bath toy set. I couldn't find just the dang turtles sold separately and god forbid I give her an octopus instead, so I used a warm water/vinegar bath overnight then rinsed. Came out like new!

  • We have them. I haven't had to toss them because I ended up hot gluing the holes. DS doesn't know that they were squirt toys to begin with, so I don't have to worry.
