How much milk is LO having daily?

She eats 3 meals plus snacks during the week and weekends but I'm wondering if she's still having too much milk. Its probably around 24-28 oz. She has water throughout the day too.

Also, is anyone giving juice? I do not but my niece was here this weekend and she had a ton of little juice boxes, yogurt drinks etc and lives on snacks but that's a whole other thing...

Re: How much milk is LO having daily?

  • Our pediatrician always says that between 16~20 oz of dairy total in a day is enough. He doesn't drink much milk but he does he cheese and yogurt so I don't worry about it. Milk is only a drink at this age so they should be filling up on real food as opposed to milk.

I don't give my kids juice. Before kids we never kept anything aside from milk in the house so I never started buying it for the kids. Plus juice is pure sugar and I am dealing with teeth issues with ds1 ( and he doesn't consume sweets on a regular basis or drink juice) so I can't imagine how his teeth would be if he did drink juice.

  • Minimum of 18oz, sometimes more. She really likes milk! As long as she is eating well at all of her meals/snacks, I don't worry too much about it. She usually only gets water in between meals, but often she'll see the jug in the fridge when I open it and she'll ask for it.

  • ~16oz/day + he usually has yogurt at breakfast and cheese at lunch. He drinks 1 sippy at daycare and we still do a bottle before bed mostly because he doesn't drink much from his sippy at home.
Grandparents have given him some orange juice on occasion, but I've made it clear that he shouldn't be drinking it at all.

  • I offer milk very rarely. He gets water or juice. He does eat yogurt and cheese with most meals though so I'm not concerned about him not drinking milk.

  • Not enough, that's part of the reason I'm still nursing. He drinks maybe a sippy-ful a day. It's driving me a little nuts.

  • He gets a sippy at breakfast and one at dinner- so probably about 12 oz total in a day. But he also eats yogurt and cheese regularly and is growing like a weed- so I'm not too worried.

  • She refuses to drink milk and I gave up offering. I think next week I'm going to try sending a sippy of milk to DC and see if they have better luck. She has oatmeal every morning made with 1/2 cup WCM and large cup of yogurt almost every day.

No juice at all. Like others have said, very little nutritional value and lots of sugar.

G probably gets about 20 oz of milk in a day. He has a dippy of water all day and then a couple of sippies of milk throughout the day and then a big dippy for milk at bedtime.

Eta that should obviously say sippy and not dippy but it's funny so I'm leaving it :P

  • LO still nurses like a crazy man, so I'm not sure.  I send between 8 and 11 ounces to daycare every day, and he nurses on demand at home (which is still a ton).
