Oversupply/OALD or reflux/allergy?

Hi everyone. My son will be 4 weeks tomorrow. He is EBF. I know I have an oversupply and OALD so I have been block feeding since he was born. He gulps very fast and pulls off the breast frequently. DS is very gassy and spits up A LOT. He has had mucousy stools a few times - but not every time. He seems pretty content most of the time but has fussy periods, especially at night he gets very fussy at the breast and repeatedly pulls off and arches his back and screams. He only sleeps 45 min to 1 hour stretches at night :-(. He also gets the hiccups at least once a day. Any ideas on what is going on here? His one month check up is next weeks so I'm planning to discuss this with his doctor - an I also have a call into lactation...but any advice in the meantime would be appreciated!

Re: Oversupply/OALD or reflux/allergy?

  • Sounds like reflux! Upright after feedings and avoiding putting to sleep on back. Should be inclined. Meds are needed in many cases. Zantac.

  • My friend's LO does this, but in their case it was OALD. I've heard "laid back" nursing can help some.
