Stripping and Putting Out

Well. Actually, just stripping.

So I'm all sorts of confused. i joined this FB group something along the lines of Fluff Love and CD Science and I guess they are all about stripping. I was thinking mine might need it but I am so confused I can't even tell my butt from a hole in the ground right now.

I'll lay it out for you
THE ISSUE
My Charlie Bananas are effing yellow. like a nasty, dingy gross yellow. They have this sort of oily feel to them as well (almost like the diaper cream isn't coming out, but we use CJs which is CD safe) and are somewhat leaky. Instead of doing what I have always known to be good and coming here first, I posted on the Charlie Banana FB group about it. Only one person replied and said I should strip them. Then on the Fluff Love and CD Science group they are talking about stripping all of the things that ever existed.

WHAT I RESEARCHED
I watched all sorts of Youtube Videos on stripping and searched the forums and I have no idea where to go from here. So many people are all BLUE DAWN FOR ALL THE STRIPZ. Others say never use dish soap in your washer. I couldn't find any threads here that highlighted why and how to strip, but I won't pretend I spent hours searching them.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I will be switching from Nellie's to Tide Ultra (I guess that's the closest to Original Tide powder we have).

Also, I used to work for a department store in the shoe department and my boss would leave me notes on what to do. Instead of writing "unstuff the shoes and take them out to the floor" she would say "strip and put out". She wasn't trying to be funny either. Anytime someone talks about stripping their diapers I think of my boss and shoes. Just in case my title needed explanation.

Re: Stripping and Putting Out

  • "Original" tide is just the scent. What you have is fine. If your diapers feel greasy maybe dawn IS a good idea but I would do it in a bucket with a plunger or the bathtub or something just to be safe. I know a lot of people who've put dawn in their washer no problem but you don't want to be the once who has an issue and has to fess up to the repairman. Also please disregard any advice you got from fluff love about amount of detergent. I think they get a commission from proctor and gamble.

  • I see hot washes with no detergent recommended a lot for stripping around here, but rlr isn't a bad idea either. Although I don't tnk you need to soak them in three packets of it. It depends what you're stripping. If you're just stripping detergent residue hot washes work well. If you have hard water minerals or something rlr can help. Idk what you have going on that's greasy :)

Ok Thanks. How much would you use? And I only joined Fluff a week ago and I am not sure I like much of it. People get way pissed about diapers and try to school everyone a little too quickly. At least according to the threads I was reading :/

  • But she's not new. Why does she sound new?
Hold me. I feel so new.

  • Love the thread title but I am too jet-lagged to respond helpfully.
  • Yes they're very bossy. So are we but were nicer about it :). Do you mean how much dawn? I would experiment but I would start with a little, like maybe a tablespoon for a big tub full because whatever goes in must come out. How many diapers are they? Based on what you're describing I might basically hand wash them with some dawn. Get like the cheap stuff, though. The fancy ones have all kinds of additives like bleach you may not want.

We have really really hard water so that might be a factor. The prefolds and workhorses and doing fine but it could be the material they are made of. It's just the CBs and their inserts that are gross, greasy and yellow.

  • Oh wait I think you mean tide. I don't use tide but I know folks around here use wildly different amounts. From tablespoons on up. I generally think you should start with however much you would use to wash that size load of clothes and then go up (if they come out smelly) or down (if you have bubbles left in your final rinse) from there.

We only have 12 CBs, Ok I will try this.

I think that's why I freaked out, I went to other forums and they got me all confused, when I knew I should have just stuck with this forum.

I have been. I am for real.

    To explain

I was trying other forums to check out CD information and all the information seemed to be contradictory and it got me really confused. It seems like the more I looked, the worse the information got. I've only been CDing for 10 weeks, so I am newish but I've been on this forum for most of my pregnancy.

Also, my son hates napping during the day so I am often awake for far too long. And no sleep=manic posts.

  • The July 14Ravenclaws badge is very familiar and the name is slightly familiar. I know what you mean about visiting other boards groups and then getting confused about washing diapers.....I got confused about washing regular laundry from visiting some of those other folks. Does anyone know if it's possible the Nellies wasn't washing out the CJs completely? Another thought that crossed my mind was high iron in the water....but that would be orange not yellow?

I used to be JP27 and changed my screen name but not my avatar. You might remember me from such things as"hotboxing butts". Since Felix was born I am away for awhile then come back.

I was thinking that about the Nellie's which is why I'm going to try Tide now. I know it's had success with people here. But I assume I need to get the gunk out now before switching to anther detergent?
