Preemies

First food

29.5 week triplets will be 6 months tomorrow (3.5 mo age adjusted).  They are between 17#8 and 18#9 and have good head control.  We put together their feeding table tonight and sat them in it.  So cute...2 of them grabbed their spoons and started chewing on them!  When did others with 29/30 weekers begin foods ie. yogurt.
Almost 2 year old DD was born 36w6d.  Started yogurt and very pureed foods at 4.5 months (3.5 mo age-adjusted for her) and she did fabulously!
TIA...

Re: First food

  • I have a 29-6 baby who is now 13.5mos actual (11mos adj) and now she's eating pretty much anything we eat. We started cereal in a bottle early due to reflux, but she wasn't really into any solids (purées, cereal) until closer to five months adjusted (7.5 actual). She just wasn't that into it...though once she started, she never turned back.

On another note, did you say your 6mos triplets are like 18lbs?? DD is only about 18lbs at 13.5mos!
  • Yup...we grow them big!
They were on neosure 22 cal til 4 mos. And DH is 6'6", so we know they have height on their side:)

  • My 31 weeker started with sweet potato shortly after she turned 6 months (4 adjusted) but she really took off at 7 months. Her pedi said to start offering at 6 months actual and just see how she'd do cause she wasn't even on the growth curve yet. We did sweet potato, avocado, and butternut squash first followed by other veggies like peas, green beans, and zucchini. She didn't have yogurt till about 9 months. Best of luck! With three it should be messy but fun!

  • @HeavenBlessedMom‌ Wow! That's awesome! What were their birth weights?

We had LO on 22cal neosure and then bumped up to 24cal. She was 17lb 11oz at her 12mos appt.

We're both tall..iM 5'9" but only 110#. I'm not sure where they get their weights :-) they're not chubby but don't really look like they were preemies!

  • We first introduced solids (purees) at 6 months, but she wasn't interested. We reintroduced every few weeks until we finally had to do OT for feeding issues at a year old. It was a long road for us.

  • My LO just turned 6 mth(4.5 months adjusted) on Wednesday and we started solids this week. He is also around 17# as well. We are doing BLW so he isn't actually consuming much food but is able to grab it, bring it to his mouth, and chomp on veggies and bread. Our pediatrician cleared us for purees as well if we wanted to.

  • We started right at 6 months actual, 2.5 months adjusted.  They were really interested in food, watching us eat, leaning towards our plates, etc.  They took right to it.  We introduced 1 food, waited a few days for a reaction, introduced another.  We also started with avocado… I wanted to get a good variety in before cereal cause I knew cereal could be constipating.

  • We started a couple weeks after she was 6 months actual--I waited to ask our pedi at her 6 month appt and she was kind of horrified we hadn't started at 6 months on the dot.  M had never acted interested in grown up food but we tried baby-led weaning and never looked back.  She was an expert feeder and food lover from day one.  At 21 months, she still prefers to use her hands and she has gotten much, much more picky, but overall, I was very happy with how feeding went.
  • We started at 6mo actual. Did some purees but really transitioned to BLW by 8-9mo.
