Leaking BM freezer bags

I've been having trouble with thawing BM. A lot of the medela bags would leak while thawing. I lost at least 5 oz of milk the first time. Now I thaw them all in a bowl just in case. I bought advent bags. Just thawed the first one and it also leaked. What the heck?? Why are they leaking at the bottom? Has anyone tried Lansinoh? It is very messy to thaw in a bowl. Especially because the cream still sticks to the bag. I sent a nasty email to medela. Those bags aren't cheap!

Re: Leaking BM freezer bags

  • I have the Lansinoh bags and so far so good :-) I've never tried thawing in a bowl but I just thaw them in the fridge and have never had any leaks.

  • I also have Lansinoh bags. We haven't had a problem with leaking. I did thaw in a bowl just to be safe at first. Now I just lay them flat in the fridge. I also have some Medela bags but haven't thawed that milk yet. Good to know that they leak. Good luck!
  • I have only used medela and haven't had a problem so far... Fingers crossed! I would cry if I lost 5oz! Hopefully you get it figured out!

  • We bought the Target brand...no leaks!
  • I have the kiinde bags. They are thick and I have a adaptor so I can pump directly into them. Never had a leak.

  • I use the babies r us bags and never have a leak! I always thaw in a bowl in the fridge/on the counter just in case but have yet to need it.
  • I use Ameda because they're free with my insurance. No problems with them!
  • Lansinoh bags here as well. No leaking noted, but I haven't touched my stash yet. It's taking over our freezer, so I'm donating 160+ oz to a local mom next weekend. I've heard no complaints about the Lansinoh bags though.

  • I used Lansinoh and have had them leak only a couple of times. I noticed it is when they get agitated in the freezer, it is easier for the plastic to tear. I normally use a shallow dish and use my Keurig to quickly defrost them. (I freeze my bags flat for easy storage)
  • Lansinoh here-- no leaks. I freeze in 5 oz increments through since that's what little guy uses per bottle. I've not tried the full advertised 6 oz amount.

  • Used Lansinoh for 8months with DD1, never had a leak. I froze 2-5oz per bag and froze them flat.

  • Target here. No problems.
  • Thanks! It may be my fault. I've been attacked by frozen BM a bunch of times when I open the freezer. I have my freezer packed and just put stuff where I can. They might be cracking when they fall.
  • I use the Lansinoh and the only time I have had them leak is when I have dropped them while still frozen.  Other than that they are awesome!
