If you use NFP.

If DH and I DTD 4-5 days pre ovulation how likely is it I'm going to get pregnant? I mean I know sperm can live 3-5 days but is 5 days like a super fighting sperm and that almost never happens or are they usually around until the ripe old age of 5 days? I wasn't paying attention to my chart like I should have and am so not ready for more kids….I may never be….so I'm scared. I'm so dumb. Chastity or sterilization here I come. Oh how soon can I test post ovulation? Somebody send me some good not pregnant vibes!! Please!

Re: If you use NFP.

  • I'd wait 10dpo and yes they can stick around 5 days. You won't get anywhere stressing out though so if try to relax. Hopefully this is a lesson for the future if you're this nervous :)
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • Six of my seven pregnancies were from 5 days before.  Good luck!

  • One thing to keep in mind....did you have 5 days of very fertile ew cm between then and the temperature rise? The cm is what helps keep the sperm alive so if there isn't much of that, chances are lower that they'll stay alive that long. I've dtd 5 days pre-ovulation but had this freak cycle where afterwards I dried up for a day, then had 3 days of fertile cm before ovulation. AF came on time. Not saying it's a good idea to break that rule and dtd with fertile signs (if you're avoiding) , as sperm can certainly stick around that long, but it's not guaranteed that you'll get pregnant either.

Good luck and be more careful next time! ;)

Oh this helps! No I did not have EW CM and it is still not here yet. My chart is predicting  ovulation on Tuesday. And yes….No matter what happens I will be much much much more careful next time :)

I'm curious how you can predict the ovulation day, esp. w/ no EW CM? From my understanding, I can confirm ovulation after it's happened (b/c of the temp shift and drying up of CM), but there's really no way to predict when it will happen, other than by observing fertile CM....or I guess using an OPK (have never used one of those so I don't know how exactly they work).

My guess is that if there was no EW CM then and there isn't now you are most likely in the clear....and probably not as close to ovulation as you suspect. Just a guess though.

  • I'm just going to throw out there that Drew was conceived ~36 hours after the temp shift. So I don't trust NFP at all! Luckily we wanted a third, just hadn't settled on when!

That's why the "rule" is to wait a full three days of higher temps plus dried up cm....granted, that is one rule I break all the time, so I will take your anecdote to heart :)

I don't know for sure. It's just my predicted ovulation day based on my previous charts…..Which is why there is still hope for me. :)

From what I read if you wait 24 hr post temp shift your odd of conceiving are about 2%. If you wait the three days its less than 1%….So your odds are low anyway……This is spoken from someone who will never DTD pre ovulation again LOL

The evening of the third day... My cousin and her hubby were working opposite shifts and had an opportunity to dtd the morning of the third day... Hello baby #2. He's pretty cute and has an awesome godmother though... Yours truly.
