Ear piercing

Hi All, 

I know this is a controversial topic, however please refrain from judgement. I want to get my 6 month old's ears pierced. Has anyone done it? what was your reason for doing it so early? Would you do it again this early? What are the downside? If you live in NJ, any recommendations as to where they will do it?

    I don't "go" here, but we had DD's ears pierced at around 4 months.

    Our ped doesn't do it, so we took her to a local jeweler that specializes in infant and child ear piercing (heard about them word of mouth). 

    We did it becuase I acutally didn't have my ears pierced as a baby, and when I got to elementry school, I remember being the only little girl that didn't have her ears pierced and I wanted them.  By that time though I was too fearful to have them done so I didn't get them done until I was a teen. 

    She cried for less than 5 minutes and there have been no infections/ issues.  She is now 2.5 and isn't even aware of them.

    I think if someone is going to pierce their infants ears, it's best to do it before 4m. After that, they're aware, may pull at them, cause problems, etc.

    Otherwise, I would wait until she is old enough to take care of them, which is what we are doing.

    We had our daughter's ears done at around 4 months, this is totally normal and customary in our family/culture. She did not feel the actual piercing part at all but holding her down to be still freaked her out. For the next one I may wait until she is calm and maybe occupied with something instead of trying to hold her tightly/still.

    I got my daughters pierced on her 2nd bday she cried a bit but she doesn't bother them rarely notices them until I have to clean and rotate them.

    Not sure when in Nj you're from but I had friends go to this place in Maywood, but they have other locations.
