Infertility

What would you do - PIO shots?

I am going to a family event without DH tonight. No one knows we are doing IVF. We are going into the city for dinner and then to a small club for a show.

I usually take my PIO at 9pm. Her are my choices:
1. Take it at 3pm, before we leave. (6hrs early)
2. Do it myself in the bathroom. I'm mostly worried about not having privacy, a dirty bathroom, and how the heck to carry the syringe, PIO, etc
3. Take it when I get home - no idea when this will be.

Thanks!

Re: What would you do - PIO shots?

  • I would take it at the last possible minute before leaving your house. I also worry about the timing, but my RE has reassured me in the past that it's ok to do it early. That being said, I'm still a little crazy and would probably do it a little early the next day too (maybe like 3 hours) so it's not as long between the shots while your transition back to the normal schedule.

I have done it before in a bathroom in the airport, which was fine bc DH and I went into the "family room". But, you are right, who knows what the situation will be in a restaurant/comedy club.

  • Thank you @gnl42‌ great idea about going a little early tomorrow.
  • I totally agree with @gnl42. Taking it a little early the next day to ease back into your schedule is a great idea! Have fun tonight, that sounds like a good time!
  • I'd do it in the bathroom, however gross. Bring some wipes for your hands. Whatever you choose to do, good luck and have fun tonight

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

  • It's prob okay to take it before you leave.  Like what others said just take it early the next day.  Then shift it an hour or so later each day until you get back to your regular time.  When we give meds where I work, we can do it an hour before it's due up to an hour after.  I would be hesitant to do it in a strange place as well but that's because I am a germaphobe :)  have fun!

  • Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to do it early and ease back to my normal time over the next few days.
  • When we did PIO in the past we actually did it in the car in the parking lot of random places we were at to stay on time. Although I think you'd be fine to do it early as well :)

  • I had an issue with timing this weekend. I called the nurse Friday to ask her what the time frame is for getting them... She said it really didn't matter, and that if I needed to switch to morning for a few days, that was fine. Just as long as I get the shot at some point during the day.
