How long has your bf baby slept?

My 6.5 week old slept 7 hours last night. It was great but scared me. I don't know if he should go that long without eating. I don't want it to mess with him or my supply.

Re: How long has your bf baby slept?

  • that sounds glorious! LO is almost 5w and the longest we've had is 4 hours. I wouldn't worry about 7 hours. If it continues and you notice a dip in supply you could always pump. DS1 started going 8 hour stretches around 12 weeks and I never had supply issues

  • Thanks! @weeklyplanner‌ I'm with you with the bursting boobs lol. It took my daughter forever to sleep longer stretches so this is definitely new for me.
  • What the crap are y'all doin to get your kiddo to sleep that long?! My little man is 5.5 weeks and sleeps in 1.5 hour increments. We have a bed time routine set up and I've read a million blogs/ books about what might help and nothin! I won't exhaust you with everything I've tried but throw out some ideas and I'll check them off my list!
  • 6 hours has been the max. Boobs were definitely about to burst.

I really don't know what I'm doing lol. This new little bugger even self soothes. I feel for you though. That's pretty much how my daughter was. It will get better though I promise.
  • 4 hours. 4 glorious hours! He is not quite 4 weeks old.
  • We've got up to 6 hours and it was amazing! I wasn't worried because Homegirl has no issue letting me know when she's hungry. I did have to pump a little but it was worth it.

  • I was freaking excited over a 3hr stretch between feedings. He let me sleep 2.5hrs and I was elated. Now I'm just like.....damn. 3 wks
  • 6 hours at night, and we've recently had a few 4.5 hr daytime naps too!

  • We've had as long as 7.5 hour stretches. What sucks about that is that we only feed from one side each feeding so when I feed her around 8 on side a, we will then do side b around 3, then she will sleep for another 3-4 hours, meaning that sometimes it is almost 12 hours before I get back to side a. Talk about feeling like you are going to pop!
  • How long are your LOs going between feedings in the daytime? F usually eats every 3-4 hours still but occassionally she'll take a super long nap and go 5. I'm worried that is too long at just over 6 weeks. At night she has been going 5-6 hours, nursing, then another 3-4.

I tried to feed every two hours. Sometimes it stretches to 4 hours depending on what's going on that day but it's usually only one feeding that will get stretched that long. The rest are two hours.

6w1d, 4 hours is the longest so far
ETA: @lediaz‌ , there's really nothing you can do to get them to sleep longer at this age. It's just luck! ... or lack thereof ;)

We got a 7.5 hr stretch on Thursday night. It was great but my boobs were also bursting. I worry about supply a little too, but I'm trying to let it go and reassure myself that I just need to follow her cues. She also eats about every two hours during the day, sometimes with one or two longer stretches of 3-4 hrs. It usually adds up to about 9x a day, sometimes 10, sometimes 8.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I really don't think there is anything special that I am doing. Just lucky. Sometimes you get a good sleeper, sometimes you don't. It's the luck of the draw.

    ETA: DD2 is 7 weeks.

  • Amelia is four weeks and slept 6.5 last night. On the one hand I'm happy because I'm getting decent sleep with a newborn. On the other, the constant wakeups at k night are what keeps Aunt Flo away. So I expect to be seeing her soon.

  • 8.5 weeks here. The longest we have gotten is 5.5 hours but it's typically 5. I'll take it as DS1 was every two hours still at this point.

  • DS is 7 weeks. Last night, we got a 5 hour stretch followed by a 4 hour stretch, and it was AMAZING. Before that, the longest he had gone at night was about 3 hours, usually more like 2 hours. Take the long stretches when you can get em!
  • DS is 3 weeks and the longest we've had is 3 hrs. Usually it's about 2-2.5 hr intervals.

  • We got our first 6 hour stretch last night at 7 weeks 4 days. For the past few weeks she's been cluster feeding and awake in the evenings from about 5-11 with a few tiny naps in there. The feedings get closer and closer together as the night goes on (during the day she eats every 3-4 hours and in the evening goes to every 2 or 1.5 hours....taking 45 minutes to nurse each time). I think this is helping her amp up for longer sleep stretches?

Last night we also used a new rock n play next to the bed and retried swaddling her in a velcro Swaddleme (she was breaking out the swaddle before).  Hoping the magical 6 hour stretches continue!

  • The longest we've gotten is 5 hours, that happened once. Normally we get 3-4 hour stretches and have since the beginning. LO is 3 weeks as of today.
  • 6 hours has been the max. Boobs were definitely about to burst.
    This for me too.

  • We cosleep so I can't be sure but I think DS has done a few 6 hour stretches at 5 weeks. I haven't done anything different than with DD who did 1.5 hour stretches for many months. Just a different baby I think.
  • 8 weeks tomorrow and we've gotten several 7 hour stretches.  Usually it's 4-5 though.  Hoping the 7 hour ones happen more and more often.

Both of my previous babies STTN (11 hours) around 3 months and I never had supply issues.  With my first I EP'd and stopped pumping at night when he started sleeping.  With my 2nd I nursed directly.  I did wake up leaking all over though!

My son does nurse a lot during the day, not sure how many times, but I use nursing as a comforter.

  • I posted a simaler topic on the breastfeeding board. Everyone said let LO sleep. I called the Pedi and they said as long as she's getting what she needs during the day and having the correct amount of dirty diapers then let her sleep. Best news ever! She slept 7.5 hours last night and she is 7 weeks today! It was nice getting some sleep last night :) I'm enjoying it while I can until she changes it up.

  • Baby is 5.5 weeks old and the longest stretch we've ever gotten was 5.5 hours. Not in his crib or bassinet, but in the vibrating snugabunny cradle chair which is what he sleeps in the majority of the time day and night. I'm working on transitioning him to more flat surface sleeping but it's so, so hard when I'm exhausted and don't want to take the risk that he won't fall/stay asleep.

  • Wow gives me hope to see so many of you with long stretches already. We had one night so far with a 5 hour stretch after an unintentional dream feed. I'm trying to replicate but our DD has been so fussy at night. Hoping that too will pass soon.
  • He's just waking from a 7 hour stretch. He's 5 1/2 weeks and will typically sleep a 6-7 hour stretch- usually 8-3. Pedi says it's fine to let him sleep.
  • My EBF LO just slept from 9-5:30. Score!! She is 7w3d old. I did get up at 3am to pump because my boobs hurt so bad and were leaking.
  • She's four weeks old, and doing 5-6 hour stretches. Then a 3 hour, then a 2.

@midwestFNP‌ I had to get up and pump too! LO did an 8.5 hour stretch. I did not get any extra sleep though due to a completely engorged boob that leaked through everything.

ETA: she is 7 weeks. Did two 7 hour stretches the previous two nights. Hope this is the new norm!

I wouldn't worry about supply too much if it's an occasional thing. And if it becomes a pattern (sweet), then you want less supply at that time anyway, so you don't wake up crazy engorged!

I think she's once gone 5.5 hours between feeds, has been asleep continuously for 4.5 hours several times

  • 9 hours between feeds 7 hours of sleep!!!!! I know this might be a fluke since she was up every 3 hours yesterday but still very cool.

Now she's working on one boob and I might switch her early so I don't have to pump the other. i know it will be foremilk heavy but there's no way she can finsh off both of these rocks.

  • My 8 week old's max is 4 hours. She's a chunk and is in 95th percentile for weight and eats every 1.5-2 hours still during the day. I need more sleep! :)
