Kaiser insurance and getting a pediatrician

Ok, major ftm question here. When am I supposed to get a pediatrician if I'm 6 mo along and therefore don't have a baby to add to my insurance yet? As soon as they are born do I sign up for one and then make their appointment for shots? Do I take them to my ob/gyn for their first check up while it all gets sorted? Can I select the pediatrician now and make their first appointment closer to my due date? Kaiser really needs a "so you're having a baby" handbook!
Thanks!

  • My bad! They have a week by week checklist on their website! Ignore my post. :)

  • When are we supposed to select?  I have Kaiser too

These two are just so funny...

Also, due date has come, gone and I am just so anxious to meet baby!  Please be healthy and strong baby, mama can't wait to meet you :)
  • Apparently after the baby is born according to the customer service lady. Don't forget to get your free breast pump from them too!
  • Yep, I'm looking forward to it!

  • Hi Ladies! My mom is actually a nurse for Kaiser and I had my first through them. It was wonderful! I'm pregnant with my second and wish I still had Kaiser. Any pediatrician at the Westminster clinic is amazing. Also I delivered at Good Samaritan hospital in Lafayette. The nurses at Good Samaritan were so helpful and sweet
  • We had our glucose test appt a couple of days ago and I found out some more info about the pump. Before you discharge home they will set up a home visit appointment for very soon afterward (our md made it sound like it was for the next day possibly or the day after) to come weigh the baby. At that time you get your voucher which someone can go get your pump from the clinic.
  • I am a Kaiser patient and asked my OBGYN these types of questions.  She was really helpful in assisting.  Also, an NP does do a home visit the first couple of days after you get home. It's AWESOME!  Such a nice service because you most likely won't want to get out of the house.  At least I didn't!  And yes, get your free pump!
