anyone else notice this?

I just started pumping to build my stash for when I go back to work and I just noticed that the medals bottles and the lansinoh bags are NOT the same amount when I transfer milk. In the bottle I will have like, 1.5 ounces and when I pour into the bag it says something crazy like 5 ounces. I have like 6 or 7 bags that are all now mislabeled :(. I'm guessing I should go off what the bottle says vs what the bag says.

Wanted to give others a heads up if they hadn't noticed, or hadn't started pumping yet

    I have the medela bags and if you don't open the bottom all the way the oz are off. Even when you do it's still just approximate measurement.

    this is why I prefer to pump into bottles and transfer to bags. there's usually a slight difference. you might not have had the bags fully extended if you were getting that much of a difference though - that's ridiculous!

    I've always gone off of the bottle reading and actually never paid Attention to what the bag says.

    I noticed that too with target up bags. But yes..if you stand the bags up rather than just holding them- they are a bit more accurate. Very annoying!!

    This exactly. I pump, transfer to our bottles, cool in the fridge 24 hrs, then transfer to the bags and put the bags in the freezer.

    Yeah I have the same bags and you really have to pop out the bottom so it's almost standing on its own. Even then it's usually off by about half ounce for me.

    Are fluid oz and oz by weight the same? Now I want to do a comparison and test that out.

    I always go by what the bottles say. @dogperson11‌ You're the second person I've heard say they cool it first. Why?

    I always do this too, it's how I caught the difference! I'm just pissed it took doing this 6 times before I caught it :S

    They actually are not the same. Maybe in a smaller amount they appear similar, but for cooking you do not weigh liquids.

    ETA: An example would be a gallon of milk weighs more than a gallon of water, although not by much. 1 fluid oz = 1.111 dry oz  A fluid ounce is a measure of volume rather than weight.

    That's what I've read / been told to do
    I have read this too. I have found it helps the bags not stick together when you set them on top of each other.

    I have these too but haven’t used them yet! Man.... who knew BF and pumping would be so complicated :S

    So I tested this today and my Lashinosh bag said the same amount as my Medela bottles. I look at the amount while holding the bag in the air with the bottom completely expanded and the top open so that the bag is essentially the same width from bottom to top. I did notice that if I close the top, don't expand the bottom, or set the bag on a surface the amount is wrong, so maybe that's the difference.
