Should I let her sleep at 7 weeks

My LO is almost 7 weeks old and EBF.

Yesterday at 7pm was DD last feed we put her down around 8pm and I woke up at 2am. I do feed on demand at night and she's is usually up around 12:30am or 1am (same routine every night).I looked at the monitor and she was was sound asleep. I woke her up to feed her - should I have done this or let her just sleep and wait for her.

In our classes and books I've read they say BF babies shouldn't go longer than 4 hours. Is this true for 7 weeks?

Re: Should I let her sleep at 7 weeks

  • My dd is now 17 weeks old, but I remember my doc telling us as long as she's back to normal birth weight (at this point most babes are) that it's okay to let LO sleep. Everyone may say something different but I was always told LO will let you know when their hungry and to let them sleep. Not sure if that helps any. My LO was still waking three times a night at that point. But enjoy the extra sleep :-)

  • DD started going 5-6 hours at night right around 6 weeks old. She was gaining weight perfectly and wa eating more frequently during the day to make up for it. I was given the ok from my pediatrician to let her sleep.

I think that as long as LO is still getting the minimum of 8 feedings in 24 hours you can let her sleep that longer stretch. But definitely ask your pedi.

My LO has always been a great sleeper and I let her sleep as long as she wanted at night (after freaking out the first few times and waking her to eat, haha!) and just made sure to nurse on demand during the day. Our pedi at the time said that as long as the baby makes up for the previous MOTN feedings during the daytime, it's totally fine. If your LO is gaining weight and has the appropriate number of wet diapers, enjoy the sleep. :)

  • Thanks ladies!! I ended up calling the pedi and they said let her sleep! As long as she's getting everything during the day and having enough dirty diapers!

I hope that last night was not a one night thing!!!!

Thanks again:) hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  • My lo is 2 weeks old and the pedi told us yesterday to just let her sleep at night! She did say during the day to not let her go more than 4 hours.
