Thawing Breast Milk

What is the best method for thawing breast milk and how long does it typically take?
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

Re: Thawing Breast Milk

  • I always just ran under warm water. Fast and easy.

  • I would thaw in the fridge overnight for dd (unless I forgot). Either way, her bottles got warmed in a large Pyrex of hot water. Worked great.

  • I mostly thawed overnight for the next day's bottle(s), but would run under lukewarm water if needed more. If you freeze in BM bags laid flat, it shouldn't take long because the frozen mass is quite thin/large surface area to total volume ratio

  • So...after you thaw frozen milk in the fridge, can you get it to room temp by just leaving it out? Same with just refrigerated milk?

When going out for the day, is it best to bring freshly pumped room temp milk or bringing cold milk with an ice pack that you need to warm up later?
