Boppy worth it?

Due to a zillion factors with DD1, breastfeeding never took off or worked correctly, and at 3-months-old I fully quit all the interventions and switched over to formula full-time. It was the best decision ever and I should've made it SO much SOONER!

That being said, things appear to be going favorably in the nursing department so far with 2-day-old DD2. Weird! Which is all a very long way of me asking, is the Boppy worth it?

  • I don't use mine for bf. I use it for Los tummy time. For bf I used my Brest friend but only for the first month with the first child. It was a lifesaver for my back. I barely use it with this LO. So the short answer is no not worth it unless you'll use it for other things.
  • I loved mine for all three kids.

  • No. I don't think so. I tried to use mine in those early days but I feel like it made LO and I lazy. Once I ditched that thing, his latch improved and my pain was gone in about a day. My dog uses it now.
  • I loved mine with all three kids! I used it as a nursing pillow, a tummy time place and a great place to put a new sitter so if they fell over they didn't hit their head. Even with my oldest, for whom BFing didn't work out, I used it when giving her bottles. I still have mine around because now my sister uses it to nurse when she visits.

  • I loved mine and used it for pretty much every session. It was nice having a hand free to eat or surf the internet while DD nursed.
  • I loved mine. Just get a few covers because it will get spit up on it. I liked the ones from Pottery Barn because they're really soft but any will do.

  • I loved mine. I used it with DD even when I was giving her bottles just because it was comfy, and now I'm using it while nursing DS. I do have a few friends that hated it, though. Do you have a friend that can lend you one for a week or so? That way you could try it without the full investment.
  • Love mine! Used it BFing Z (till 6 months). Now I used it when on my computer or iPad haha. Still comes in handy!!
  • I love mine! I used it with both girls and just ordered a boy cover to use with DS!'
  • I had both the Boppy & the My Brest Friend.  I rarely used the Boppy.  DD was small & she would roll between the Boppy & me when I was trying to breast feed her.  The Boppy would slowly move out from my body & she would slowly drop in the space.  The My Brest Friend pillow is flat vs. rounded (the Boppy is rounded for tummy time), it has a strap that goes around your back & buckles (clicks) in place so it stays were you put it & it has a little bump on both sides to elevate the baby's head & help with positioning the baby while breast feeding.  I LOVED the My Brest Friend!  DD didn't like the Boppy for tummy time so for me it was a waste.

  • We STILL use the My Brest Friend pillow for nursing sometimes and he's almost a year old. Is that a confession? haha. We don't need it, per se, but it's easy. I strongly prefer it to the Boppy. We have both, but our Boppy has gotten hardly any use and the only reason I haven't gotten rid of it is because I stupidly bought an expensive cover for it from Etsy and it's really cute.

This is wise, thank you. I should be able to figure that out on my own typically but obviously I'm currently sleep deprived.

As for the rest of you, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE UNANIMOUS SO I KNEW WHAT TO DO.

  • I used the boppy for tummy time. I don't think I ever used it for bf'ing.
  • I used my boppy more for sitting on for myself since it was the perfect seat so my lady bits weren't getting all the weight down on it. Lol. We mainly just used it for tummy time.
  • Love my bobby. For feeding, tummy time, assisted sitting, and for me to just lay with on the couch when the kids are in bed haha.

  • I liked the Brest Friend way more for nursing (and I have always had the giant twin one because they market it as good for plus sized women as well - that thing rocks), but I have always found uses for the Boppies too. I have two, I got them cheap at the resale shop. People are always getting rid of them; check your local Craigslist and Facebook b/s/t groups if you're waffling because of the price.

  • I never used my boppy. The LC I was seeing used a my Brest friend which I really liked and found much easier to use so I used that with DS for quite some time. With DD I didn't really use anything

  • I prefer the breastfriend I got rid of my boppy it is good for practicing sitting but that's about it.
  • The boppy did not work well for my body type.  I have a very long torso and the boppy did not get them close enough to get a great latch.  The breast was great for me.

  • I found the Brest Friend to be more worth it, for nursing. Even then (with the Boppy too) I still needed a regular pillow underneath it.
The Boppy was handy for other stuff, but not so much for nursing.

This. I quickly replaced the boppy with My Brest Friend.
  • I used my boppy in the very beginning of breastfeeding when DS wasn't quite a pro. A few weeks later I just used whatever random pillows were around me. However I used the boppy a lot. DS would lay on it when I wanted to prop him off or he used it for tummy time. Later he used it when he was learning to sit and I would put it around him to give him for support.

  • Congratulations on your new baby!! :):)

I loved the Boppy, though I used a different pillow for tandem nursing my twins. The Boppies came in handy for tummy time, sitting up, tandem bottle feeding.....I'd definitely recommend one!

  • We loved the boppy. My husband loves to use it as a pillow or a place to rest the iPad. It's been very useful for us :)

  • I had a Boppy pillow for a very short time with DS1 but I hated it. It wasn't firm enough to keep DS in place and and he kept slipping in between the pillow and me, which was really frustrating. My SIL bought me a My Brest Friend pillow (https://www.mybrestfriend.com/) as a replacement and that was what I ended up sticking with. I bought a new one when DS2 was born and its the only one I'd use again.
  • My boppy makes an excellent dog bed.  As in my dog sleeps there every day, it makes her feel secure :)

I also use it to prop dd up for tummy when she was little or now when I want her to sit in the kitchen with me so I know she won't crack her head on the hard floor.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

@dizzycooks I suppose my dog would enjoy it as a bed...for her HEAD. :)

I went to kids consignment store today and snagged a Boppy for $7. But now I think I want the My Brest Friend! (Although, Christ, what an embarrassing name to have to say out loud. It's "mommy-fying at it's worst.) I'm going to see if anyone on my local mom's FB group has one I can borrow before buying that one new (couldn't find a used one).  THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!

  • @shoesontoes I didn't try the my breast friend out at all, but we used a pillow for DD when we were feeding her bottles. If it turns out you don't like the boppy or breast friend, you could always give that a shot :)
