Pregnant after a Loss

Pretty sure I've got the plague, y'all

I woke up yesterday morning with the cold from hell. I haven't been this sick in a long time. I guess pregnancy causes your immune system to drop? Ugh. Anyway, my doctor has a list of "safe" medications during pregnancy, but I'm in first trimester and trying not to take a lot. How do you guys feel about Tylenol during first tri? Any other suggestions? I am feeling miserable (sore throat, congestion, sneezing, cough, aching EVERYWHERE) and of course worrying about my little one too. Thanks for letting me AW. Not sure if anyone has posted about this topic but I couldn't find anything. :/

Re: Pretty sure I've got the plague, y'all

  • I'm sure Tylenol is safe, so is gravol.. But avoid eucalyptus - which is in so many cold medications!
Tea with honey..., steam.., LOTS of water..
I hope you feel better soon ;)

My go-to for cold and allergies is my netti pot. I use that regularly when I'm congested and can usuAlly reduce the congestion, sore throat and clogged head feeling. I hope you feel better soon!

  • Tylenol should be fine, when I was sick I took kids Robitussin (they said alcohol-free and that was the only one I saw). I also lived on chicken soup for like 3 days. Hope you feel better soon!!

  • I've had a cold 3 times since I got my BFP. I work with preschoolers so germs are always going around and it can be hard to avoid them. I never actually took anything for my colds other than hot water with lemon and honey and natural honey throat lozenges. I have however taken Panadol (Tylenol) one time when I had a really bad headache at work. I was far too paranoid to take it for my colds but that headache was horrendous so I made myself. I'm glad I took it. If you're really struggling I would take Tylenol, it's proven safe during pregnancy. Also try the hot lemon and honey drink I mentioned before. That actually made me feel a whole lot better.

  • Thanks everyone, the husband is taking good care of me. I'm eating lots of soup and having some hot water with honey and lemon which seems to be helping a bit. I think I MIGHT be over the worst of it... hopefully not jinxing myself. I am worrying myself because my boobs are slightly less sore today than they've been which of course I've convinced myself means the worst... sigh. Always something to freak out about.
  • I hope you feel better! Cough drops are good for the sore throat. I hate the menthol ones, so I usually go for the fruit breezers from Halls. Benadryl is also safe. It makes me really drowsy so I've taken that in stead of NyQuil before.

  • @KJsbabe, it's funny you say that lol, right before I read your comment I had taken some Benadryl for the night AND I ran out to Rite Aid earlier and bought Halls fruit breezers. :)
  • Try some saline rinses, they help with congestion.  I think I have a sinus infection & am feeling like death too.  It sucks!  Feel better soon!!!

  • I think pregnant women should get a pass on being sick. I am one for steam and tea. I also love Popsicles when I am sick. Hope you feel better soon!
