Switching to WCM with MSPI?

My son was diagnosed with MSPI at a few weeks old and I cut out all dairy and we switched to alimentum (I BF and FF due to not producing enough).  His symptoms were silent reflux, colic, and eczema.  At 9 months, we gradually switched him to similac sensitive.  He has been great on that formula.  I tried yogurt and cheese a few times, and he became very fussy.  For his first birthday party, he ate buttercream frosting.  The next day, he had awful eczema.  I'm a little confused because similac sensitive is dairy based.

I'm very nervous to transition my MSPI baby to WCM.  Anyone have experience with the transition?  I'm thinking about keeping him on similac sensitive until he's 18 months before starting the transition.  I will discuss this with his pedi next week, but wondered if anyone has experience with this?  Thanks!

  • Thanks for the response!  I'm glad to hear your LO outgrew his sensitivity.  My son also had a reaction to eggs a couple of months ago, so perhaps it could have been the eggs in the cake that caused the eczema.  I will talk to the pedi Monday :).

  • DS had a reaction to eggs and the pedi sent us for allergy testing. It turned out that he is allergic to dairy, soy, wheat, nuts and eggs. We had been dairy, soy and nut free. The allergist recommended that I continue to BF because of all of his allergies. He can have coconut milk at least. Hopefully you will get better news from your Dr.
