Newborn sleeping crib vs. arms

I know there have been lots of posts about sleep but I'm an end of the monther and most of those were before I was ready, plus I'm mobile and searching is hard...

LO is 12 days old, and we are having a terrible time getting her to sleep in the PNP beside our bed. She will sleep great being held, but only for 30 minutes in the PNP. We have occasionally gotten 2-3 hours in the PNP but that felt like a miracle and is definitely not the norm. Any tips on getting her to sleep in the PNP? I know I will sleep better if she's in there than now when she's on my chest!

  • Have you tried white noise? You can get free phone apps. It works sometimes to either keep our LO quiet or help her fall asleep

  • I've seen advice on warming it up beforehand with a heating pad. I haven't tried this yet but I can tell that my body heat is what LO loves the most!

  • We went through this as well, and about the same time, around 2 weeks old. Just hang in there and keep trying, eventually she will get back to sleeping in her own bed, it just takes time.

Unrelated to post- I'm usually Mobil so I don't see signatures but you photo is amazing! She's so small in comparison it almost looks photoshopped! Super cute (plus patient dog).

  • Maybe sleep with her swaddle (if you swaddle) or her pajamas. My smell calms my guy when he's fussy, so it might help your LO stay sleeping. And I second the heating pad to warm before putting her down.
  • Swaddle or swaddle sleep sack. Or put her on one side of the pnp with a tightly rolled receiving blanket on her other side, if you are comfortable with that. We use halo swaddle sleep sacks. Dd1 could break out of them by two or three months though. We later used baby Merlin's magic sleepsuits (yep, that's what they're called!) when we were having trouble transitioning from rnp to crib. Can't wait to use them again!

Thanks! I'm really hoping we'll get there soon!!
  • Thank you for the tips everyone! We have been swaddling which helps her fall asleep quickly, but she still wakes up after 5-10 minutes in the PNP. I downloaded a white noise app so we'll try that and these other suggestions and hopefully find something that works.
