Re: Sheer Genius Baby Gifts

  • I have and love some of these - the mesh teether thing was awesome. As an STM I'm eyeing that snap-on skateboard attachment thing for the stroller...

  • I loved our MamaRoo and hope this little guy loves it as much as DD did!

Me too. I had a fussy baby in the beginning and it was the only way I could get a decent nap out of her!
  • Hated the mesh feeder! I could never get all the food out (bananas were the worst) and the disposable ones weren't as good and too costly. This time I will be getting the silicone version of it though that should be easier to clean and not stain.

The bottle holder would help so many parents, but doesn't look like it would hold most bottle varieties. The shoes are cute, but not practical. We had the manual food mill and will be just using the chopper this time or packing pre-pureed food for the road. The mill only worked on really soft food and even then it wasn't easy. (maybe I was using it wrong)

The baby bloom is a great idea and dries a lot faster than just towels in the sink. The swing may have a good concept, but wouldn't fit my chunky babies. Plus it was too upright anyway. My kids managed to still make messes with the mess savers. They took the bowl as a challenge.

If you plan on making your own baby food or using formula, the items on the list may not be necessary, but look like they would make things easier if you wanted to spend the money on them.

The travel bed we got was a great buy and we used it enough to make it worth the $20 it cost. The changing pad can be found much cheaper, but I suggest one.

I'm torn on the paci-stuffed animal. As much as there is a concern about a paci alone causing dental problems, I see kids running around with the paci attached to the toy hanging out of their mouth and that has to be worse for the. They look so cute and easier to find in a bag, crib or car seat.

The skateboard makes it very hard to push the stroller, a double would be a better bet since the skate boards only go up to the same weight as the strollers. The cocoon looks dangerous. The outlet replacement a lot more work than the single plug covers to install. The nail file looks like it would be too noisy.

I love the bag idea and thought about making one like that instead of like the PPB, but it's hard to get things out of it without opening the whole thing, or if you just drop them in, they will fall out when you go to use the changing pad.
  • @AggieMom0809 I was told by my doctor that unless your child is going to be using the pacifier until he/she is 3 or 4, there's no need to worry about dental issues anymore. The pacifiers today are completely different from the pacifiers from yesteryear, and even those issues were debated.

That being said, I'm always astounded by how old some kids are and still using the pacifier. A friend of mine is a kindergarten teacher and every year, at least one parent sends the pacifier to school with the kid the first day of school.
  • I like the carseat roller thing! Then again we have to fly over 6,000 miles to see fil, mil;) carrying a carseat through airports suck. I did love the mesh food holder! I put ice in it when he was teething too!

  • I work for a pediatric dentist and she strongly encourages no more pacifier use by 2, it can definitely affect the teeth at that point. 3&4 and I'd think there could potentially be major dental issues. I'm sure some kids are fine but not all.

We used the "orthodontic" ones, but I've only found these on the soothie style. I'll probably end up getting at least one just because they are so cute. Then only use it for the first year (assuming the baby takes it). After that we'll re-evaluate. My son didn't start using a paci until he was a year old and the pedi said he needed to start.
  • @AggieMom0809 just curious as to why the pedi suggested a pacifier use at 1?

My son was a drooler. He nursed for only 3-5mins at a time to get 6-8oz so never had a chance to strengthen the lower lip muscles. I thought it sounded odd considering the push by most to get rid of them. Once she explained about using it to strengthen the muscles it made sense. We ended up taking it back away at just over 2y, which may have been too soon to cut it out completely.
  • To be honest, I think most of this stuff is av waste. Not very practical.

I like the toddler attachment for the stroller, I loathe double strollers and think this would come in handy. I'll have to see if my stroller can have one attached. I'll probably wear the new baby and push DS3 in the stroller though. I'd Def. Try it out before I bought it though.

I kinda like the organizer thing for an umbrella stroller.

That flower tub thing looks so dumb! I have a puj tub and I love that!

Special baby food makers, unnecessary. Use a blender or food processor.

Freezer cubes. ... use a regular ice tray holder.

The Rolling car seat. Give me a break! :-q

They may not be necessary items, but many would make things easier. If you do travel a lot the rolling car seat holder would be very useful. We never traveled through the air port with kids, but those that do love these. Otherwise you're toting along the seat and a stroller.

I suggest trying more double strollers to find one you like. I looked into the skateboard thing, but the biggest problems were the child had to stay standing and it was hard to reach over the kid to still push the stroller. It's similar to pushing a shopping cart with the kid trying to walk between you and the cart.

  • I already had that umbrella stroller organizer in my list before I was pregnant! I had one with DD, but that one looks way better than what I had.

  • Zulily has the bottle holder for sale for $7 if anyone was planning on getting one.
