Repeat Preeclampsia?

How many moms out there have had preeclampsia more than just the first time? Did you feel it coming or did it hit you all of the sudden? What were your personal symptoms and experiences?

I had it very severely and suddenly with my first born, now I'm 34 weeks with baby #2 and wondering if I'm headed for the same emergency delivery with this little guy

Re: Repeat Preeclampsia?

  • My doctor told me that the risk is actually lower if you're second baby has the same father as the first. I developed it with my son around 35 weeks. This time around I've had the HBP, swelling, and a few other symptoms but luckily my protein has remained low. Only 2 more weeks! Hoping things stay fine!

  • I've had pregnancy induced hypertension with all three of my pregnancies. I was hoping to get through this time without it but about two weeks ago my blood pressure started to rise. Like @theresat858‌ mentioned it has happened later in each pregnancy. I can tell when my blood pressure starts to go up. My hands get this strange feeling and get all red and blotchy and sometimes I also get a headache. There is no way to know if it goes from PIH to pre-eclampsia though without being at the doctor because there is no way to know if I'm spilling protein without them testing my urine. That said I'm to go in if I get a severe headache, have a bp reading of 160/105, or start to see spots.

  • I was very worried about this as well. Pre-e was never confirmed with DS1 but my BP suddenly was high at 37.5 weeks so they delivered him. As you can probably tell from my posts lately, I have been super worried about it. I did have a BP spike at 36 weeks, but it was back down at 37, with clean labs and urine, so they think I will likely get away without any issues this time.

I hope you don't have to go through that again!

  • Thanks ladies! Yes, my dr is monitoring me very closely. My son was born in another city so I have a different OBGYN now thankfully. She's asked me to check my pressure at home daily as well. I have some of the early symptoms so far: nausea, headaches, swelling, rise of BP. She told me if I go up to 140/90 that we may be taking baby early. I had a seizure because my pressure was so high with my first son during delivery at 36 weeks. So that resulted in an emergency c section. So this dr is being very cautious. I nervous to see how this all plays out, I can feel myself starting to feel very yucky again. Cross your fingers for me!
