3rd Trimester

Anyone women have premature aging of the placenta

My mom had 3 sleeping babies due to premature aging of the placenta.  The condition caused full placenta abruption.  After the 3rd they kinda caught as to what was going on and my sister was born early on purpose to avoid the situation.  My dr said it is not hereditary but there is a possiblity it could happen to me and they will monitor me during my 3rd tri.  As I'm getting closer to my halfway point I'm getting a bit nervous.  I've asked my mom about her treatment with my sister but that was 27 years ago so I know things have changed.  Anyone here experiencing it and what kind of treatment are you getting to avoid serious complication?

Re: Anyone women have premature aging of the placenta

  • not sure if this is the same thing or NOT, but I am older and I was told I would probably only go to 39 weeks because the placenta is more likely to disentregate in older women. Was your mom older?

I asked today if there is a test to know this AHEAD of time if the placenta is beginning to disintegrate and was told a) a non-stress test can possible detect it and b) measuring the level of amniotic fluid also gives them that information
