WWYD? Appt scheduling mishap

So I've had monthly ultrasounds since 20 weeks to monitor this baby's growth, because I have low PAPP-A and because DS was IUGR. And I have no thyroid. Ok, so for lots of reasons...

The MFM said at my last ultrasound that because this baby looks awesome and is measuring in 70th percentile, he would leave it up to my MW whether I should come back for the last growth scan. MW initially said yes, so I scheduled the appt. But then after following up with my MFM, she called me to say that she changed her mind and I didn't need to go.

So I forgot to cancel the ultrasound and it's on Monday!! #-o

WWYD? Call and try to cancel the appt the day of (and possibly incur a charge of up to $50 based on canceling within 24 hours), or go to an appt that I don't need and don't want, and waste their time and the insurance company's money (I have 100% maternity coverage so these ultrasounds cost me nothing)?

I really don't want the last ultrasound. But I don't want to pay for a canceled appt. Help! TIA ^:)^

Re: WWYD? Appt scheduling mishap

  • Call and leave a msg on the VM to cancel tonight!

  • Maybe call and explain the situation? You might get out of the fee or they could tell you to come anyway.

I'll definitely call, and this is what I'm hoping - that they would rather not charge me than waste the MFM's time and resources. I'm just worried that I'll get a "Sorry. It's too late. Choose to pay a fee or come to an unnecessary ultrasound." :-/

  • I am an RN in a specialty office (not ob related) and my vote is call first thing Monday and honestly explain the situation. You can try calling and see if they have a voicemail, but we don't have that option for liability reasons.

I'm not sure they have a voicemail. I think their after hours answering service just refers you directly to their on-call doc. And I don't want to call the on-call MFM over something like this. Talk about wasting valuable time!

Oh that sucks, In that case I'd call first thing Monday morning. It's not your fault your midwife cancelled. I'm surprised they didn't offer to cancel for you if you didn't want it, I think mine does.
:) I'll do that and just hope for the best. And it is my fault...MW said I didn't need it two weeks ago. I should have called the MFM and canceled then, but I just went on vacation and didn't think about it until tonight when I missed that "appointment confirmation" automated phone call.
