NBR: weight lifted PNA discussed

So, I went a little coo coo last night after I kept getting told by reliable sources that I now need to get my peanut and tree nut allergic dd tested for type 1 diabetes. It's been a very rough week, DH and I just decided last night to cancel her appointment with the allergist. She was supposed to undergo a food challenge for peanuts, and it was completely freaking me out because in a food challenge the just keep serving her small amounts peanuts until she reacts. Well, she reacted very violently to pecans the first time she was exposed to them so I just couldn't comprehend putting her through that on purpose "just to see". These are the things kids with food allergies are subjected to when their tests turn negative, even if they're false negative. We're now going to seek a 2nd opinion before doing any challenges.

So you can see the panic I was already in over her. Then to be told she might very well have type 1 diabetes on top of that, I lost it! The weight lifted part comes from my convo with her nurse who looked at her last urine test from last week when she was sent home from school because they thought she had a bladder infection. She said that there was NO sugar or ketones in her urine and so no diabetes. Sorry to get all religious on you all, but I'm definitely saying prayers of thanks! This is what being on high alert every day will do to you. I feel neurotic sometimes. Thanks for letting me ramble.

  • Thank you ladies, @ExcitedMama2‌ having so many is tough. My son has the same allergies as dd, plus egg. This year he started eating egg in baked goods and that is going well, and he grew out of dairy allergy at age 3. Both of which he had severe reactions to as a baby that now that I look back on it would have been considered ana but at the time I was very uneducated. Throwing up, violently, and hives to both. I thought I'd gotten used all this, maybe it's the hormones, but it's all been so frustrating like it was 7 years ago.

Now this morning he tells me he doesn't want to eat wheat because of his reflux issues. So I have appointments for both him and dd next week to address possible reflux for both of them. It feels endless, but I just want my kids to feel well. And I have a second opinion scheduled for dd with a new allergist. So I feel good about that, hopefully they'll be more thorough than our current allergist. It just isn't right what our kids have to go through. They can't just be kids all the time.

    Anywho... Thanks again.
