Re: Prenatal Vitamin Poll/Recommendations

  • I take Rainbow Light, and love them. They're food based, so easier to absorb by the body, and no yucky artificial junk.

  • I take the "one a day" brand prenatals daily. I'm pretty anemic so my OB said it was important that I take them for the iron. She also said I needed the vitamins going forward for days when my food aversions limit my meal choices to basically white rice and raspberries.

  • I didn't take them from 12 weeks-18 weeks and was getting dizzy so I started taking them again and this helped a lot. I take the platinum brand from the health food store and last pregnancy I went through cold and flu season the healthiest person I know. Even my husband got the flu but not me. I may be overly enthusiastic but I really like these vitamins.
The only reason I skipped was the price is pretty high and I was being cheap
  • I take target brand both pregnancies. Easy on my stomach.

  • I take Nature Made. I have to make sure any pills I take are gluten free due to the celiac, and they clearly state they have no gluten. That is one of the main reasons I take that brand.

  • I take the Melaleuca prenatal pack plus a probiotic. In my Bradley birth class the teacher said that a good probiotic can help prevent Group B Strep.

  • I've switched brands a few times but right now I'm happy with the target brand and a vegan DHA pill too.
  • I take the walgreens equivalent to one a day with dha (two pills).

  • Rainbow light has been my savior! The others I tried made me so sick!
  • I take them daily. I've taken a multivitamin for years and years so it's not been a big deal to remember. Mine are nature made.

  • I was hoping to get some ideas because haven't found a prenatal vitamin that I really like. I've only tried a few different kinds but they all make me nauseous and I have to take them right before I go to sleep or I will feel like crap for hours. It's weird because I've hardly had any other issues with nausea this pregnancy.

  • I take the up & up gummy from target. I love them and find them very easy to eat, but I've heard some people that haven't liked the taste.

I chose "sometimes I forget" and my brand of choice is Rainbow Light. I was taking Nature Made, but my mom chewed me out and inisted I get one with natural vitamin E. Excuuuuuse me. My brand does not make me nauseous.

  • I take the grocery store brand gummies now. Iron also makes me sick and I had the hardest time gaining weight until now. I take them everyday now, but until I figured out what was making me sick, I took them about twice a week

This. And I've been taking prenatals as my multivitamin every day for a few years now bc my Dr recommends prenatal vitamins for "all women of childbearing age"

  • Meijer offers free prenatals so I take those. The ones I take have DHA in them. They ran out of the brand(not sure what it was called) I've been taking so they called my doctor and switched me to a new one called virtprex. I love their free prenatal program especially considering I'm sure many women would take them if they could, but just can't afford them.

  • I take the Garden of Life prenatal vitamins. There are 3 large capsules, but I take one 2-3 times each day so I'm not trying to swallow them all at once. I like that they are more natural, plus they got the seal of approval from my PhD dietician friend.

  • Rainbow Light! Love them.

Also, I take DHA/EPA by Jarrow. No fish burps. My MFM wants me taking that.
  • I take Nature Made with DHA. They have no added colors, preservatives, etc. I have never been sick from them.
  • I stopped taking them about 2 weeks ago, I think the iron was causing all my major bowel issues. My Dr didn't seem to have any issues with me stopping.
  • Right now I'm taking the Similac ones that they sent me a $10 off coupon for in the mail (it made them free!)  What sucks about them is it's actually two separate pills, one is the big vitamin tablet and the other is the smaller fish oil capsule.  Before Similac sent me the coupon, I took Nature Made Prenatal + DHA.  The best ones I ever took were prescription during my first pregnancy, I think they were Prenate Elite with DHA.  They were big purple capsules, but the coating on them tasted like vanilla, not fish oil!  Somehow they were free through my insurance.  Doctors don't seem too quick to write prenatal prescriptions anymore, not sure why that is, most insurances must not cover them?

  • I usually take Sisu, they are in capsules and you take 2 a day so they are easier to digest. I take one after breakfast and one before bed. These are the only ones that don't make me sick in the morning.
If I forget in the morning I will take a Materna before bed.
I am pretty sure I threw mine up or missed quite a few in first tri but now I don't usually miss a day.

  • I take "brain strong" and extra folic acid

  • I switched around a lot in the beginning but I've stuck with the One A Day Prenatal since month three. Everything else made me gag way too much with all my morning sickness. The one a day is a pretty normal size pill and you only have to take one where as the other varieties usually had two pills to take at a time. I also tried the gummy variety by nature made but on the second bottle they were hard as a rock and I could've sworn I broke a tooth on those bad boys so I called that quits. Lol
  • I love my Trader Joes brand. The seem to have helped with the digestive issues that the Up & Up Brand were giving me.

Personally, no. I am conscious of eating lots of folate-rich foods in my first tri though. I do my best to get all my requirements from food. Only way I could be more sure my body is actually absorbing it
  • The only times I've felt nauseous during pregnancy where while taking vitamins
  • Trader Joe's prenatal plus Nordic naturals prenatal dha... they don't make me nauseous!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I take the prenatal vitamins perscribed by my doctor, it's an everyday thing...although they are a litto bit hard to swallow....:)
  • I take the Nature Made ones at Target
  • I was taking rx prenatal vitamins (Pregvit) but it got quite expensive. So I switched to Centrum prenatals. I take em with OJ every morning.
  • I take the Target brand ones.  Or any generic brand really.  I just keep them on my bedside table and take it right before bed...then I hardly taste the aftermath.  I learned that with my first pregnancy-  I couldn't take it in the morning.  It messed with my stomach and I would burp it up all day BLEH

  • I also have been taking the Rainbow Light my entire pregnancy. I take them at night and they have never given me any issues. What drew me to them is they have a built in probiotic so my chronic constipation is pretty much non-existent these days! That and the super gentle iron included really helps me. Only down side is they are horse pills, but so worth it.

  • I'm with @stargirlb in that I tried to get as much vitamins from food as possible during the first trimester. However, now that I'm in the second tri I just was want to eat potatoes... and ice cream. I basically can't stop eating whatever the f I want. On the plus side I haven't gained any weight yet :) But I know if I ate better I'd probably have a lot more energy.
  • I take Up & Up prenatal gummies and DHA supplements.

  • I take the ones prescribed by my doctor and an extra dose of D3 every day due to vitamin D deficiency.  I have only missed a few days worth of them.  I always take them before bed so that the effects on my stomach are minimal.

  • I take nature made.  I found them at Winn Dixie the other day, BOGO free, so I got enough for the rest of my pregnancy for only like $18, that was nice.

  • I took Enfamil Expecta prenatals every day for the first month or two since my OB gave me a bunch of free samples. They were pretty good, but I wasn't thrilled about the additives, and the online reviews for that brand freaked me out.

    I mean, seriously:
Enfamil reviews from their website: " I just sent this information to a co-worker who is pregnant and started reading all the reviews and was so blown away because i always thought the pill had something to do with how smart she is but these all confirmed it! my daughter remembers everything and I mean everything!! Example, she remembered what aisle in Lowes her and her daddy bought a soap dispenser in!! Her eye sight is amazing as well. She remembers books read to her after one time, directions from just being observant, and I am so glad I took this pill! I highly recommend this to any who is expecting!!"

Kind of creepy, right? Seems a little weird.

After a while, I started taking Rainbow Light vitamins, but usually only to supplement on days when I feel I didn't eat enough nutrients. I feel pretty strongly that the best source of nutrition is from food and have been trying to focus on consuming a good balance of foods every day.

Some days I just want mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, and orange chicken, so for days like that I always make sure to supplement with a pill.

BUT recently I bought a bottle of prenatal gummies from Whole Foods and they are so delicious that I can't help but eat them every day! Gummy bears/gummy worms are one of my biggest cravings so far (although I have only indulged twice), so having a gummy that is actually nutritious is like the most amazing thing ever.
