Would you wake this sleeping baby?

I know, you NEVER wake the sleeping baby. But LO is such a creature of habit, when he doesn't follow the norm it really throws me for a loop! So, on a normal day I get home after picking him up from daycare at 4:00, he nurses and is napping by 4:30, and usually sleeps for about an hour. Well it's now 8:00 and he is still sleeping! The kicker is we usually start bedtime at 7:30 with bath, book, and then bottle, so he's usually going down for the night right about now. Would you wake the little guy up, or just let him sleep and damn the routine to hell? On a typical night I would probably wake him, but poor dude has been fighting a nasty cold for a few days and has been sleeping terribly, so I feel like he really needs the sleep. I just worry that then his sleep will be all messed up for the rest of the weekend and it will end up doing more harm than good. I'm so torn, I will honestly do whatever A14 tells me to do.

  • You said it; he's been sick and not sleeping well. I say let him rest and treat the next waking as a motn feeding as pp said.
  • I agree with ^^^ Jo need to wake him he prob feels bad and now is sleeping it off, he might wake up earlier than usual but I don't think one day is going to mess him up sooooo just let him sleep ;)

  • If it were my LO, if he was taking a hard nap, I would just go ahead and pick him up, do a diaper change and put him into his sleeper, do a little wipe down if necessary, then nurse again if he wants it and put him in his nightly sleeping arrangement.  That way you won't disturb him/worry about him being cold or wet, etc and if he continues his long sleep that's good.
  • I never wake a sleeping baby. So, no. I wouldn't wake yours. :-)

  • DD went down tonight at 7:15, she is still dressed and in a day diaper. I held her for an hour thinking she would wake up, eventually gave up and she has been in her crib for over 1.5 hours now. She did this same thing earlier this week, woke up at 10:30 and we changed her into a night diaper and pjs and she went right back down for the rest of the night.

Moral of my long story: let them sleep, if they're out that hard, they must really need it!
  • Wow, thanks to all for replying so quickly! I will trust your great advice and let him be. I don't want to seem like some kind of hard ass that won't allow her baby to deviate from schedule, it's just so weird for him and my brain could not compute, and then I fuss too much. I need to take swerb's advice and just "leave him alone" sometimes!
