Cloth Diapering

Day care will not do prefolds with covers-Help!

Hi everyone! :)  My daughter is starting day care and we want (and need) to continue cloth while she is there.  The problems:

1) The center will not do prefold and covers...it has to be as close to a disposable as possible.  The have to come pre-made each day so that they can just be put on.

2)  My daughter can only use cotton.  She is sensitive to everything else!

3)  I need to do this as cheaply as possible!!!

Any and all suggestions are SO welcome and thanks to everyone in advance!!! :)

Re: Day care will not do prefolds with covers-Help!

  • Best bottoms covers with cotton/hemp inserts pre-snapped in, no reusing covers?

  • Cotton only?  Or natural fibers only?  And how much are you looking to spend per diaper?

Could you check and see if they would take a tri-folded prefold laid inside a cover like Maple suggested?
  • WOW...you ladies are super fast!

Here's the thing...they cannot take the time to adjust anything with the diaper and the entire diaper has to come off and go straight into the wetbag (cover and all).  So, it has to be attached.  I have a coupe of Bestbottoms and I LOVE the idea of those BUT my daughter breaks out from the hemp/cotton blend inserts.  She can only wear cotton.  We tried bamboo sposies once when she was younger and she got a bad rash.  :(
  • Yeah...I asked and they said that they cannot do prefolds with covers because they have to adjust it.  The diaper has to be completely fuss free.  They don't even want to do snaps.

I want to do seconds because we really cannot afford to buy a whole new stash.  We need to find 7 diapers for $100 or hopefully less!
  • Hmmmm...is bamboo easier on the skin than hemp/cotton blend?

  • What would I use the bamboo liner with? They will not allow me to just lay it in a cover.

  • Can I just say that policy is stupid. How many times do they have to change a kids clothes for a blow out? They can't take ten extra seconds to make a cloth diaper fit right? I guess we're supposed to be grateful they're willing to do it.
    Yes.

Supposed to being the key word.

Sorry op I've got nothing just sharing the frustration.
  • How about some elementals? You'll have to look around a little, but you can find some good deals on ebay. They are organic cotton.

OMFG is that really a possibility?!?!?!?!?!
  • If you think a bamboo cotton blend may work, you can try nickis or imagine all in ones in aplix. That's a lot less expensive than elementals or simplex, and I think you can get 7 for under $100. They ship free, so you could get one to try. They also have a wash and return policy if you try and get rashy.

  • You ca definitely add snaps to prefolds. That's a great idea.

  • The bamboo disposable could be a problem not because of the bamboo but because of the chemicals used to make them. You could try the Nikki's bamboo AIO's they have a aplex option and are pretty cheep. I think like 12 each.

  • OS Simplex are Birdseye cotton, you just tuck the flap in so that the fleece is out of the way. Grovia AIO are organic cotton. But I think both of these brands only offer snaps. But were they offering Aplix Simplex for a brief time?

Totsbots Easyfit v4 is cotton bamboo blend and Aplix and may also be worth trying.

  • Would adding snaps to prefolds be more/less/same as making her own inserts a la ITK's tutorial and adding snaps?

Adding snaps to inserts or pfs that she already has would be easier. Pressing snaps is really quick

  • Check diaperwreckers' s site. https://diaperwrecker.com/2013/09/cloth-diapers-in-daycare/ for the rules about cloth diapers in your state....then I'd get a doctor note for the cloth diapers stating exactly what kind of diapers she is able to use. Also have dr specify any limitations on rash creams......I.e. no Desetin. The latter 2 so they can't put either on her at any time without serious consequences. The first so you have knowledge of what they can and cannot do in your state should they try to tell you what they want to do instead of what the law says. Adding snaps to prefolds/homemade inserts is an option. My mom did that with a bunch of old flannel sheets, put the snaps in and then added a top layer and serged the edges. Just make sure to pay attention to snap placement if you go this route. If her skin tolerates it, you could also sew a layer of cotton, or two, to the tops of any BB inserts you already have.

D'oh! This is why I shouldn't answer posts when my attention is divided.
  • I just thought of this because of the intro with someone selling gdiapers, but you could do g-diapers preloaded with pad folded flats. Used g-diaperd sell for $10-15, flats are cheap (and 100% cotton :) ) and g-diapers are sized and velcro.

I know g-diapers don't get a lot of love around here, but it could be a cheap answer to your problem.

    Good Luck!!!

I don't think you were the first one to mention Simplex. So just thought I'd mention that is all.

Yeah, I just thought because the pouches it might be less "adjusting", like preloaded inserts would stay. And because they are sized and velco it would also be super easy for a non-cder to slap on quickly.
