Wooden Puzzles

Hi. This is my first time posting on this board. I had a burning question that I'd like help with.

First, a little about me. I have a 15 month old, born 5-26-13. He is full of energy and loves novel toys and foods. He's my only right now but we're trying for another.

My question is, I recently purchased a few wooden puzzles from an online garage sale site. They looked to be in good condition and were a steal compared to what you would pay for new. I had not considered the fact that they could have come from a home where people smoked. Ugh. Does anyone know how I would 1. disinfect the puzzle pieces 2. get the smoke smell out?

I know you are not supposed to submerge them. I was wondering about Lysol spray and wipe down followed by Febreeze but is that safe for my little man given that he still sticks things in his mouth. Thanks!

Re: Wooden Puzzles

  • I'd try to return them to the seller who failed to disclose the smoking. Third degree cigarette smoke can be just as harmful as second degree.

  • I would wipe with damp cloth or lysol sheets, then put out in the sun for a couple of hours.  UV light disinfects everything and putting it outside can help air out any smell.
