Silly diaper question

Happy Friday, lady's!

So, my shower was last Sunday. I received a buttload of diapers, mostly size 1. I got three boxes of 100 count, and two smaller packages (32 count, I think) of the size 1's. I got a few packages of size 2's, only one package of 3's, and no 4's. My friend told me afterwards that no way will I be needing almost 400 size 1 diapers. Assuming she's right, what would you suggest I exchange some of them for? Size 3's? 4's? And how many do you think I should keep? Maybe the smaller packages and one of the 100c boxes and exchange the other two? I'm so dang clueless. :-/

  • I would exchange them later not just for size but also for brand, in case your baby has a reaction to the brand you currently have.

  • Yeah, I don't think 400 size 1 diapers is all that unreasonable, either.  Depending on the size of your baby, you could very well end up needing that many or more.

  • I agree with what persephonerose said. You also have no idea how big your baby will be at different stages. My daughter was full term but needed preemie diapers and never made it past size 2 before she was potty training. It might feel like you have a ton of diapers, but they go QUICKLY.
  • You guys are making a lot of sense right now. I'm glad I asked. I'll just cool my jets for a bit. Thanks, I appreciate the advice! :)
  • With DS1, we used up two big boxes of size 1 diapers, so about 468...and that's just what we ordered thru our Amazon subscription.
  • Yep, I agree with the others.. Wait to exchange :)

  • I think you'll go through 400 size ones! I felt like my son was in size one forever.
  • I took all most all the diapers back. They will load the money on a gift card. I plan to spend it on diapers as I need them. I don't have much space to store a bunch of bigger sizes so this worked for us. But pampers swaddlers are my first choice. They are great on sensitive skin.
  • I read something online that said I'd need >16 huge packs of size 1 diapers. Um, that's like over 1600 diapers.

    Here's the link, but I'm a FTM, so I don't know what I'm doing:

  • DD2 was in size 1s until she was 8 or 9 months old. I would wait and see.

I would wait as well. My girls always grew taller and were thinner so they wore smaller diapers for longer periods of time than their peers. That being said, if I was in your situation I would actually start with one smaller pack (to try the brand first) and if it works well for you then open a big pack and see how it goes. I personally wouldn't return anything first and I'd start with a small pack so that if that brand didn't work out you can still return the big ones.

  • Yep. I'd wait. But also if you do exchange because say, you have a chunky baby like mine, I'd go with size 3. My DD was in 1 & 2 for like half a second and then it seemed like she was in 3's forever. Then she was in 4's for half a second and she's been in 5's since she was about 9 or so months. (She's almost 15 months now.)

  • DS was in size 1 for the first month and went through over 300 diapers. He was in size 2 and size 3 for a long time though so if you end up exchanging any, I'd just go with size 2.
