Another name clicky - vote on my whole list

Because @sweetadeline31 suggested it in the randoms thread, and everyone likes to click . . . vote on my name list!

I have a separate list of middle names that are all family names, and we'll pick whichever one sounds good with the first name we choose. These include: James, Wilson, Axel, David and Scott.

I'd also love whatever feedback, comments, alternate spellings, other suggestions, flames, and judgment you'd like to throw at me. I'm not committed to any of these. Thanks!

  • Loading the player...
  • I love Abel. We had it on our boy list. Miles is my second choice.

      Emma Rose - 9.14.05    Beckett - 5.26.07    Sawyer - 9.22.12    Lennon Mae - 9.26.14
  • I like Miles Reid. Sounds like a blues or jazz musician.
He would be named after Miles Davis, after all!  I think with Miles, we're leaning toward James as the middle, though.  Certainly not David, because it would be WAY too close to Miles Davis.  :)

  • I voted for Miles!
But I also like Eli and Nolan!

I'm pretty sure these are my top 2, too.  But Abel is a long shot, because DH doesn't love it and it's not technically on the list, I just refuse to let it drop.  But that's what I did with Tatum, and I won, so I'm still holding out hope.

Miles James is nice to. Plus you have the added MJ possible nick name to keep up the musician theme. Or you could really hate that idea because its MJ

  • So, I really love some of these choices. Nolan is one of my all-time favorite names for boys. Depending on your last name and the "flow" of it, I also really like Miles, Reid and Eli (I would name him Elijah and call him Eli, but that's just a personal preference.). Your middle name ideas are solid but I have to say that Axle does not seem to fit, to be honest....I feel like it doesn't mesh well at all with any other names and feels very random. Also, "Eben" feels like a weird made-up name, even though I know it's real. Have you considered Evan? I love that name, too!
If we used a longer form of Eli, I think it would likely be Elias.  But I think I prefer just Eli.

Axel was my maternal great grandfather's name, and we tossed it around as a first name for a little while before deciding that the Axl Rose connection was too much for us.  FWIW, we would pronounce it with a soft Ah sound - "ahh-xle" as opposed to the harder way that Axl Rose says it.  But you're right, I'm not sure it really goes with any of those first names, DH and I were just both unwilling to let it go entirely.

And I agree that Eben is kind of out there, too.  We like Evan as well, but like how unique Eben is.  We went to law school with a dude named Eben and have always really liked the name.  Though there is a Sublime song about a guy named Eben that gives it a pretty bad rap, so I'm not so sure.

    Anecdotes of course!

I actually know a few Ebens from undergrad; I neither like nor dislike the name, but I think most people perceive it to be "Evan" and the Ebens of the world are often left correcting people.

I have a cousin Miles and think it's an underused strong name.

  • I picked Miles. I like Miles James. I almost picked Reid but I wasn't sure if I liked the flow with the middle names since it's only one syllable. Reid Wilson is kind of nice though.

Same problem with Bode - even when I tell people now that we're considering it, people always think I'm saying Brody.  The other obvious problem with Bode is that upon seeing it written out, folks tend to pronounce it just one syllable "bode" like it rhymes with load, rather than bo-dee.

  • I voted Eli.  Love that name!  Like PPs I would probably go with Elijah or Elliot and shorten it to Eli.  I do like Elias, too.

I also really like Miles and Abel.

Very good choices!  I can see why you're having a difficult time picking.

  • I know we had the conversation about people not getting the name Bode right a few months ago, but I still think it's my favorite. So many kids names are outside the classics right now, I don't think it would be as big of an issue as other people do.

  • I love Eli! And I like it just by itself, not as a nickname to a longer name. And Eli goes really well with all your MN choices except for Axel.

Thanks.  Bode is far and away DD's favorite.  To the point where I'm starting to wonder if she's just going to call him that no matter what, or if she might pitch a fit if we name him something else.  We keep saying that we won't pick a name until he gets here, but whenever the topic comes up, she yells "Bode!  Bode!  I like Bode!"

I love Axl Rose so that would be a plus for me. Miles Axel sounds rad. Also, I love Eben and had forgotten about that Sublime song so I don't think you should take that into consideration.

  • I voted for Eli, but I like that, Nolan, and Reid (in that order).

I am strongly opposed to Axel, Eben, and Bode.  If that matters at all to you. :)

  • I voted for Bode because its a favourite of mine that SO would NEVER go for. However I'd spell it Bodhi (which is the only way I've ever seen it spelt).

But also I love Nolan (another that SO doesnt like) and Eli (which is also on our short list).
