Toddler Bed Night 1 Success!

If you're on IG you probably already saw, but night #1 was a success. I put him in bed around 7:25. He played around for a while but stayed on the bed - at one point his feet dangled off of it and you could tell he was thinking about getting out but didn't, lol. After about 15 minutes I went back up and laid him down again, rubbed his back for a minute and said good night. He tossed and turned a for maybe 5 more minutes but then was OUT! I woke up around 5:45 and looked at the monitor and he was still sound asleep, but 10 minutes later I heard a loud bonk and he started crying. I went it and he was standing beside the bed - I think he tried to adjust and hit the bed railing and scared himself. I will put extra pillows in tonight! ;) He laid in bed with us for about 30 more minutes but he was up for the day. Not perfect but overall a great first night!

Do you keep the room dark or do you use a night light. I've been told when going to toddler beds to keep the room dark so that way they are more likely to stay in bed then venture out into the dark. That will be my strategy someday when we switch. His room is pitch black right now.

@jobiann I kept the room dark. He hasn't really ever needed a nightlight (when he was an infant I kept one in there so I could see where I was going every few hours..) so I decided to try it without one. I think for going to bed it's helped, but in the morning I think he's been a little freaked out. He woke up at 5:30 this morning and I couldn't get him to go back to sleep, but I'm assuming that's one of those things he will just get used to as he adjusts! Hopefully!
