Come on people, it's 8:17. Let's get this party started. I've had one all week that I've been thinking of. I let DD (11 months) eat whole grapes. I don't cut them. In my defense, she won't eat them cut up and I only give them when I am able to sit right next to her. But she loves them, so whole grapes it is. I let DS eat them whole pretty young too, bc I got sick of cutting them.

I just can't...no one should have to see their kid or anyone die/lose brain function because of choking. It is not a good way to go. Especially if you will have to live with the fact that you could have prevented it.
I clearly need to step away from this very personal issue...
There are a million healthy, baby-friendly fruits and finger foods that you can give to a baby with very minimal cutting. Raspberries, strawberries, bananas, tomatoes (not cherry tomatoes), peaches, pears, etc.
Raw apples, raw carrots, and grapes account for a huge percentage of kids under five ER choking visits--along with nuts, peanut butter served as a glob instead of spread onto something, marshmallows, popcorn, hot dogs (and, randomly, balloon fragments).
These are things my husband (who is incredibly chill about most things and takes a gazillion hours of infant resuscitation education) won't even feed to our kids while he is cooking dinner. It doesn't matter who is watching it happen. The Heimlich maneuver is better than nothing but it is far, far from foolproof.
Please take the 30 seconds to chop up your baby's grapes if you decide to keep feeding her this "labor-intensive" fruit, instead of one of the alternatives...
Eta: it's a video about an easy way to cut grapes. The link works but didn't post like I hoped.

Random aside: did you know that grapes have the highest sugar content of all the fruits?
Also I am getting pretty pissy when someone asks when I am having another baby or I should have another since one is not good. I am an only child and I'm pretty sure he will be too. It would be sooo unfair for us to have another baby when we can hardly get by now and guess what I don't want another....I just want to hit them.

Are cherry tomatoes okay if cut in quarters, because now that I think of it. She was eating chicken and quartered cherry tomatoes. I looked at what she coughed up though and it just looked like chewed up chicken.
Glad your dd was okay. Choking is the worst!!

LOL I think some of my North Dakotan dialect came through on that one. It's a very common "word" around here. Just like they don't say a shirt is Striped they say that it is Stripe-Ed. I will never fully conform
Also love when people say "A guy would/should/could"

Deft sounds like a regional thing. Did you grow up somewhere else as a kid and then move?
