Too much in washer?

edited September 2014 in Cloth Diapering
So I didn't think about until now, but do you think this is too much for one load of diapers?
30 inserts + 20 covers... I have no idea how big the drum size is, but it's a Whirlpool Cabrio HE TL.

ETA: I'm generalizing "covers" and "inserts" as it's a mix of pockets & covers, inserts & FSTs.

Re: Too much in washer?

  • Are your diapers getting clean? Are you having any problems?

I think that sounds like a reasonable amount and there still looks like there is some space in there.

A better question may be what does it look like when there's water in it? But I'm not really up on that stew jazz.

I think it depends on your washer capacity...and WSS ^^...are they getting clean?

I was washing every 3rd day with 10 or so covers, 20 or so inserts and 2-3 fitteds and found it's too much for my FL (not clean after one full wash, and had to rewash). I wash about half that now and have no problems.

  • I have a Cabrio TL. When I have a large load I use the bulky setting on hot, which fills the tub full of water. Otherwise, I use the heavy setting, which senses the load size, after a quick wash with spin and a rinse with no spin. If I don't do the second rinse with no spin there isn't enough water on the diapers.

  • They seem to be getting clean. I just don't want to push my luck, ya know?

@KLXVI‌ good to know about the bulky setting using more water. I always do a warm quick wash (no detergent) then a hot whites load with detergent, extra rinse automatically included. So you do an extra rinse before your main wash to soak the diapers?

  • @rugbymama‌ I don't have a Whites option since I have the base model. I did a series of washes with and without the second rinse no spin and noticed more water being added with it. The bulky cycle is too large for a normal load for us. I suggest stopping your washer during the wash cycle to check how the water level looks.

  • Cool thanks, I'll probably do my next wash on Saturday, so I'll check then.

  • Every other day usually. Sometimes every day, depending on how many covers MIL goes through. She is good at just throwing the whole diaper in the wet bag even if the cover is still good.

  • I'm bringing this back. Finally caught the washer during the wash portion of the cycle. Not many suds and I'm thinking the water level looks a little low. What do you guys think?

It looks a little low to me. I would say that my wash looks similar if I use the heavy setting without the second rinse and no spin. But, if you aren't having issues it may not need to change.

  • This was the whites cycle. It has an extra rinse included. It was on the "wash" portion.
