Do you just go back to "normal"?

edited September 2014 in January 2015 Moms
This pregnancy was a surprise, and I had never thought about pregnancy enough to really think about how bad the morning sickness could be or how uncomfortable I would get. And let me tell you, I never in a million years thought that I would have morning sickness like this. I am almost 22 weeks pregnant and still can't keep down anything most of the time. All I want is to be able to eat! I've come to accept the tragic realization that this COULD last my entire pregnancy. But... Do you just go back to "normal" as soon as you deliver? Meaning am I actually going to be able to eat a real full meal after te girls arrive? I hate this all day sickness, especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. I just can't wait for all of the food but I know if I'm still sick I'm not going to want to eat any of it. Ugh. I just want pumpkin pie and eggnog and bourbon balls :((

  • I'm so sorry! I could have written this with my last pregnancy. I was puking right up until I delivered my dd and I still didn't have an appetite for a couple of weeks after she was born. I stopped feeling nauseated as soon as she was born, but I just didn't feel like eating for a little while after. I drank a lot of whole milk to get enough calories for breastfeeding. Good luck! I hope you feel better! You may have tried this already, but sipping warm broth always made me feel a little better and stabilized my blood sugar. I also found that taking half a Unisom tablet about 45 minutes before I ate would help settle my stomach enough to keep something mild down. It makes me sleepy, but not so much that I can't function.

  • I like you, pizza, and eating haha especially after starving for 9 months
  • For me, lots of things suddenly went back to normal once the kid came out. The nausea disappeared, the constant headaches and severe neck pain disappeared, the swelling in my ankles went down within hours, and when I had PUPPPS it cleared up within a day. (Okay, that's not "sudden," but it was much quicker than I anticipated!)

Mine were all c/s and the pain meds kept my appetite down at first, but I definitely feel so much better even fresh off of a c/s than pregnant.

  • Ditto to the pps - felt SO good after giving birth. It was nice to enjoy all food again - no more aversions, salad was actually non-gag-inducing and I could clean, cut, prepare and eat chicken.
  • So good to hear that I'll be able to eat whatever I want! I have been wanting Moes for months but every time T brings it home just to look at it makes me throw up. I have the flu along with my normal all day sickness at the moment so I am really not feeling great, but after reading what you all have said, I did tell him when he just called on his lunch break that I want Moes after they get here. Lol.
  • Nearly all the HG stories I read where the Mom had it all the way to the end said the minute the baby was out it was completely gone. One said she sent her husband for a cheeseburger as soon as she wheeled out of the OR, so yes, it should get better ASAP.

  • I am just 23 weeks and I feel your pain. I am dealing with an unplanned preganncy and even though and excited now I am having a hard time. I had no clue I would feel like death for month. My body is not handling this pregnancy well at all. I still struggle to keep even pre natial vitamins down. It's been a rough road and it nice to hear others understand and it does get better! I can't wait to eat!!!
  • Any raw veggies made me very sick while pregnant. I also refrained from deli meat just because. After I delivered they gave me a turkey sandwich with lettuce and cheese and it was the best turkey sandwich ever even though it was in one of those pre prepared triangle packages. I think you'll feel better very quickly.
