Car seat poosplsions

So LO had her first car seat blowout and I'm not sure the best method for cleaning the straps and seat. I've wiped it all down with soapy water but the straps are still stained and it's a bit smelly. What have you all used? I have a Chicco KeyFit 30. Thanks!

  • Gold poop. It doesn't even document what was behind her back.
  • You need to lord this over when she starts back talking you.

No advice on the poop clean up.

Not this. Please don't do this. Read your manual. They will say what is ok and what isn't. Straps can never be submerged (changes the integrity of the straps) and manufacturers differ on if you can machine wash or not.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • We haven't had a poopsplosion yet, but we have had several incidents of pee and puke with our older DD.  Read the directions like PPs said.  For our carseat we've handwashed and dried the carseat cover (handwash in all free and clear and warmish water in the sink, rinsing, and drying).  For the straps I used a toothbrush and all free and clear and scrubbed them.  For the seat itself I used a combination of the toothbrush and mild soap and q-tips to get in the tiny areas.  No fun at all!  There are piddle pads for seats to help a little, but since we've gotten one for DD she's managed to either soak through it or have some eruption from another end that it didn't help with.

  • Please, please don't do these things to the straps of your carseats. No cleansers, no water, no toothbrushes. Wipe them with a baby wipe and set out in the sun. If you've done these things to your straps, then your seat is compromised and potentially unsafe. I would recommend calling the manufacturer to order new straps!

Wait .... if water is so bad ... my DD is a total drool fountain and has soaked through straps with her drool multiple times. But manual doesn't say replace if drenched in drool. And isn't nylon fairly vulnerable to UV degradation (thinking about various kinds of rope)? So is sun really OK?

Not trying to argue. Those are real questions as I'm confused now. Good luck toyou, OP. And love the pic! Such a sweet little pink princess to make such a mess!

  • Drool is fine. Some people take the straps off the seat and completely submerge and soak them. The sun is fine. It works wonders to remove stains and puke stink. I really encourage everyone to join the Facebook group "Cars Seats for the Littles."  There is so much about car seat safety that people don't realize and this is a great resource.

  • Thanks all! I had read the manual and knew not to submerge the straps but wasn't sure exactly what type if cleaning agents were best. Vinegar, baking soda, dish soap, free & clear, oxi... Seems like several have been used by y'all with success. I'll throw the pad in the sun as well. Hoping for sun tomorrow!
  • We had the same thing happen today! Used baby wipes and sunshine and it's all good now. I heard it happen as I was unpacking groceries and she was strapped in on the kitchen floor! Crazy babies!
  • Wait, I'm confused. It's gold poop. I don't understand. :-??

As for the washing, PPs have given some good advice.

  • Take the cover off and put it in the washing machine. You cannot wash the straps. You should contact chicco for new ones.

This is why car seats expire.
