Bed rest :(

I apologize that I know I haven't posted in a while, we recently moved and went away for a few weekends in a row and things have been hectic! I am now at home on bed rest! I was having cramps, feeling like the first day of my period for a few days, so I decided to call my MW and ask about it. She wanted me to come in and get checked (this was last Wednesday when I was 35 weeks). Turned out, I was 1cm dilated an 80-90% effaced, so she told me to stay home. I had 3.5 weeks of work left, so it's been a bit of chaos getting all of that organized for the person who is taking over for me. I feel terrible about it. I had a couple of nights where I was having crampy/uncomfortable contractions (more intense than BH) every 5 mins, so I paged the midwife. She came to check me once and I hadn't progressed from the 1 cm. The other time she told me to relax and take a bath to see if it slowed down, and it did. I had a biophysical profile done yesterday, so hopefully everything comes back normal from that. Feeling a little on edge! But I am now officially 36 weeks, so feeling good that my baby made it another week! I have been very lucky to have daily visitors including family and friends to keep me company, thank goodness for them! Thanks for listening :) I will now have more time to catch up on what's happening on the board!

Re: Bed rest :(

  • Hiya! Sorry to hear your on bed rest: ( I was having similar symptoms last week when I was a day short of 31 weeks. Softened cervix, and -2 station an lots of uterine action.. So I've been on bed rest since then, for two more weeks. Good days and bad! When are you on bedrest till, 37 weeks?

  • I'm sorry for all the stress. I'm also a centimeter dilated and 80% effaced (at 36 weeks...baby is also at +1 station) and the midwife didn't put me on any restrictions or anything. I hope we can both hold out until 37 at least!

  • I am sorry you are on bed rest. I was just placed on it and I am really dreading it and wondering how I am going to juggle taking care of a toddler as well.  I think its great you have company! I have a friend coming to stay this weekend so I hope that speeds up the time.

Dr is wanting me to try and make it to 36 weeks. So you are a little ahead of me.

  • Thanks ladies! I seem to be on it until 37 weeks, but am not going to go back to working anyways I don't think. My doctor (GP) would prefer I go until 38 weeks. I will probably pop into work next week though to wrap some things up, nothing busy.

@happycianci I just had my ob check today and she said I was 3cm dilated. No restrictions from her either. I'm freaking out a little bit. I know it can mean nothing and I could go full term but she is pretty confident I will go early and seemed totally fine with that....

@sweetiepops hang in there! Hope everything goes as smoothly as you and Dr are hoping!

I know, it's startling to hear that you'll likely have your baby early! But I think what both your OB and my midwife mean when they say "early" is just a week or two. My son was born at 38+3 and was perfect. He came home with me 24 hours later. The 37 week milestone is a big one and I bet we'll make it! You too OP :)

Sorry for the stress! I can relate having been on bedrest for the last 4 weeks including a short L&D stay. But 36 weeks is awesome and each day baby stays in is an accomplishment. You're doing great! Keep it up
  • Interesting how differently each doctor/midwife reacts. I assume she wanted me on bedrest because I was barely 35 weeks with those symptoms. Maybe if it had happened this week at 36 they wouldn't have been as concerned. Best luck to everyone, thanks for answering :)
