Pregnant after IF

Question about spotting (?) in early pregnancy

I hope its ok that I post here... I'm from the IF board and am definitely not ready to join here, but I thought this would be a more appropriate place to post my question.

I had 2 strong betas 9/13 (400) and 9/15 (950). Now waiting for my first ultrasound on Monday. I'm 14dp5dt today. I'm on estrace and am used to having the blue discharge from the vaginal pill. This morning, the discharge was a dark green color (sorry, TMI) - but I'm assuming this is a small amount of blood mixed in with the blue resulting in that color. It is a small amount - same as the blue discharge normally is. I have seen this color before... last month right around the time when I found out that I had a chemical pregnancy as the beta wasn't going up appropriately. Last month was a very different story as I started with a very low beta, so it was touch and go from the start. This time, things seemed to be right on track, but now I'm panicking. It doesn't help that this is the exact same day (14dp5dt) that I found out it was a chemical last time. I'm freaking out. I have a call into the RE, but was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this color discharge (good or bad outcome) ?! Is it spotting? I know some people have spotting and things turn out ok, but of course, sometimes they don't turn out ok. I'm in full panic mode.

Edited bc I just saw the post below about spotting, so I apologize about rehashing a similar topic... but I'm still curious if anyone on estrace has had this dark green color?

Yes, I get the greenish.  I've had some spotting too...but the days when it seemed like fresher spotting, I had more of a red or purple discharge.  The only time I saw green was when I had some older, brownish discharge mixed in.  If you are just seeing the green discharge, I think it's so little, I wouldn't worry.  Once you are further along, they can check on the little one via u/s, if you are still spotting.

  • I can only imagine it's hard to keep your imagination from going to the worst possible scenario, but the truth is that spotting this early is pretty darn common and often no big deal. Pelvic rest, plenty of fluids, and a hefty dose of patience! There's nothing to do but wait, unfortunately. My fingers and toes are crossed that this concern becomes a small blip of frustration and nerves in a long and healthy pregnancy!

  • ((hugs)) Being told that it's common is somewhat reassuring, but I know well that it only helps so much! I've had light spotting off and on this pregnancy, and it's been mostly on in the last week. It's of the kind that they tell you is no big deal, like yours, but I can't help the panic and tears that spring up to see the TP be the wrong color.

As early as you are, there's probably not much to be seen on an ultrasound, and the nurse just told me that even at my stage they would only bring me in to hear the heartbeat. Since I can find it easily with the Doppler, they don't even want to see me right now. So, as @southernyankeegirl said, lots of fluids, lots of rest, and don't have sex or exercise. Fingers crossed that this is just a function of early pregnancy/FETs for both of us!

In the meantime, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I hope your u/s next week shows wonderful things!

  • Thanks ladies.

@gsancho I'm glad someone can relate to this horrifying greenish situation!! I mean... ?!?
btw - so happy everything turned out ok for you. I can imagine how worried you were about your spotting as well.

RE called back and said not to give it too much thought and definitely not to compare it to last time. It could be local irritation from the pills, so instead of doing AM and PM vaginal pills, I will do two at once to see if that helps. And no sex (which wasn't happening anyway due to paranoia). It does seem like spotting is common enough early on regardless of the cause. Of course, my mind is still going to the worst possible scenario. I have heard so many others say that the waiting after beta is worse than the waiting for beta, but now I know that its true! At this point, we are just wired to expect the worst if things aren't *perfect*. Ugh.

Ok, I will try my best to stay calm and be patient until Monday. One step at a time. I hope you guys are right - and thank you for trying to talk me off the ledge of crazy.
