School picture day. DS insisted on dressing like a witch. He's 4, it's a preschool picture, what do I care? So I sent him in a black t shirt with a witch hat. Cue the gasps, stares and rude comments from the other moms at drop off.
I think that makes you the most awesome parent. Definitely not judge worthy. I actually feel sad for people who take life that seriously that they would be all aghast over that.

I have died every day waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand more.
Most of the parents were concerned that he would wear it in the class photo. The thought of these people having to look at a class picture with my little witch in it for all of eternity just makes me crack up.
We don't ever have clothing battles in this class - not worth it - so, guess how many school pictures over 4 years my kid didn't match or even have on something that fit!
I truly couldn't care less and I think it's GREAT that you let him wear what made him feel great about his class picture!
Oh good grief, don't they have 4 year olds too? I mean, you would think they would crack a smile when they saw him and say 'oh, I know how that insisting to wear stuff is...haw haw'.

I don't fight it either. I used to put gel in his hair to style it and one morning he refuse and said "I looked in the mirror and I'm already handsome just like this.' And then I realized that all I was teaching him was that he didn't look good unless XYZ. So now my only rules are that clothing has to be clean and not stained and he has to at least comb his hair. Other than that he wears mismatched outfits with at least one article of clothing backward. Also, a huge benefit is that by letting him have some control, when I do care what he wears (dressy events etc) he will wear what I ask him to
And you will always remember it (in a good way), because you will have the photo!
I forgot DS's photo day last year, and we had just moved and DH was gone for the week. So DS had picked out his favorite clothes for the day. Maybe he remembered it was picture day but didn't tell me because he wore his red khakis and a shirt he had gotten as a gift that had a tie and suspenders appliqued (sp?) on it. And tennis shoes. And he needed a haircut badly. We still laugh when we look at the picture.
Awesome It's just a hat, I wouldn't sweat it. Last year my son wore his "puppy hat", it's a saint bernard with two different colored eyes from the GAP for pictures. And no one died.....and he looked very cute.
Re: Join the rest of DS's class parents in judging me
I applaud you. You're helping grow his confidence for sure!
