So I have it (GD) and missed my app. About diet education ( my DD was sick and I had to stay home with her) I confess my #'s have been on the high side (130-150's 2 hrs after meal) my question... What happens if my #'s are high??? Other then light headed and being nauseous??
Re: Question about GD
Numbers consistently in that range mean the baby is getting too much glucose and will grow too much if not checked. We're early enough right now that there's plenty of time to get them down, but you don't want to wait too long.
With my doctors practice all high numbers need to be reported, fasting should be under 90 and 2hrs should be under 120.
The long term effects on baby (other than being too big) is hypoglycemia after birth. Their pancreas is too accustomed to making extra insulin and it takes them a while to regulate after birth. Even with controlled GD baby will be checked periodically after birth with heel sticks to check their blood sugar. In my hospital they stop checking after 3 normal readings.
