Anyone fly Delta?

So I just got off the phone with Delta for the third time since booking our flight back to the states. They keep changing DD's seat number like 30 rows away from me. She has her own seat and they just keep saying "we can't guarantee the seats will be next to eachother". Is that a real thing?? If they change it again are the flight attendants likely to put us together anyway? I am just getting more and more mad with evey time I have to call. Seriously, who thinks it is okay to put a 5 month old baby that far away from her mom?

  • ^this. They're really good about addressing those sorts of things at the gate. And you get to board first anyway.
  • You won't get seated apart. The gate agent will ensure that you are next to each other. If not, one of the people seated next to your baby will surely trade :) Who wants to sit next to a 5-month-old without her mother?

  • We had this happen when DS was 2. All 3 of us were split up and they said no guarantees we could sit together. I said Fine, I'll be much happier on the plane not sitting next to my toddler lol. The flight attendant arranged everything once on the plane though.
  • Thanks for making me feel a bit better ladies! I just couldn't believe that all they would say is sorry that isn't our policy.. It wasn't even like they moved her seat and sat someone else next to me, they just keep moving her away and leaving the seat next to me open. I'm a huge travel novice so everything about flying with DD without DH is really, really intimidating.

  • You had to buy LO a ticket? I thought under 2 was a lap child and flew for free?

I didn't have to but my flight from Guam to Detroit is about 19 hours of flying and about 4 more with layovers and I'm going to be by myself, no way I'm holding DD for that long. We used DH's frequent flyer miles so we only paid about 70$ for her seat so I was cool with it.

There are a few good threads on here regarding traveling alone with baby. They were really helpful for me when I made a trip with B in August. My must-haves were a carrier and backpack as my carry-on, so I could be hands free and a big blanket to put on the floor for her to play on. I had low expectations, but people were really helpful and pleasant! They let me wear her through security, let me keep her carseat at the gate while we walked around and went to the rest room, etc.
  • @speechie517 I searched those threads and took notes like a huge dork  :-B. I have the car seat, snap and go, ergo, backpack AND diaper bag. Taking both so I have enough room for a bunch of extra diapers. Last time I flew through Japan I got stuck for 13 hours so, I'm overpacking on diapers I don't want to need them and not have them.

  • I had the same situation over the summer (flying with LO, she had her own seat, it wouldn't let me select seats together) but when I called they were able to allocate our seats together.  Granted they were at the back of the plane and it was only 2 flight lets (not 4) but maybe call again and see if they will lock the seats in for you?

Other thing is airlines open seats up online 24 hours before take off (when people start checking in online) so if you can't get them confirmed now I'd definitely try 24 hours before take off time.  If that doesn't work and you have to try again at the gate so be it but it might save you the worry.

One travel tip I love (and don't see many places) is to put things in groupings in ziploc bags - ie everything you need for a diaper change in one, everything for feedings in another, all of the chew toys and pacifiers in another.  That way you can just pull whichever ziploc out that you need and don't have to haul the whole diaper bag on your lap or into the cramped airplane bathroom.  Good luck!
