What is this feeling??

Im really rubbish at explaining things so ill do my best.. Bear with.. Through out the day i have been getting this uncomfortable feeling in my right side underneath my ribs (right side is where i have always found babys heartbeat on my doppler) it is sort of like a uncomfortable stitch but also just like a dull ache.. It stays for around 10 secs and then goes.. If i give my belly a shake it does go away.. But re-occurs through out the day.. Im 19weeks + 1 day preg.. Could this be baby laying funny or something? Does anyone else get this? Hope i explained it enough :/

Re: What is this feeling??

  • I'm not to sure if that's the baby but that location is usually where you feel pain if you are starting to have issues with your gall bladder. If it's still an issue I would contact your doctor...if it is your gall bladder that's definitely something you want to nip in the bud.

  • If could be a gallbladder issue but when mine would flare it was constant and felt like horrible heartburn. I thought i was having a heart attack. Does it seem to hurt more after a fattier meal? Does it hurt in your right shoulder blade?

It also could be your organs being oushed up under your ribcage. Im short waisted so everything tends to get shoved up and out when im pregnant. I get short of breath easily from everythjng being up around my ribcage and my bladder gets squished constantly.

  • No it doesnt hurt my shoulder blade.. But yeah im quite short so that could be the answer.. I had this feeling about a week ago and nothing till now.. I think id feel it abit more if it was gallbladder wouldnt i?? Maybe baby is just squishing things togev.. Sounds weird but could it be baby resting or kicking my side? Isit too high to be baby?

Not necessarily. Many people have gallstones with occasional dull pain. It could be many things and monitoring and asking your doc about it is probably the best action.

  • I've been having a lot of pain around my ribs and under my breast bone for the past couple of days. Went to see my chiropractor yesterday. She adjusted me and said, yep, you were right! You had a rib out of place. She said it's called a subluxated rib, the hormone relaxin makes the ligaments too relaxed and they don't hold the ribs in like usual but it's treatable. I felt so much better immediately after the adjustment. Still felt tender and bruised last night but not painful. Unfortunately I felt it slide out of place again this afternoon :(. Going back tomorrow for another adjustment and help this one holds.

Not sure at all if this has anything to do with what your feeling! But when I read you were having pain/discomfort near your ribs and I am currently going through this at 19 weeks, I thought I'd share my experience just in case. Hope you feel better soon.
  • Have you been some what constipated or having slower than normal bowl movements? (I know the questions we ask when we're pregnant!)  I have been super constipated the entire pregnancy so far and I often get a dull ache which will subside if I move around a bit, or massage my stomach...but it is right under my right ribs. Sometimes I will get the same on the left but it is most often on the right side, that is the corner of the ascending colon before it moves into the transverse portion of the colon...or in non medical terms the part of the large intestines that moves the waste up against gravity from the small intestines into the portion of that moves waste across the body horizontally. :) I have a feeling as my slowed down pregnancy intestines has a tendency to get backed up in that one spot more than the rest of the large intestines.

  • Thank you for the answers.. Next time i have this feeling im going to get to the doctors to get this checked out!! :)
  • Yes that seems too high to be the baby at this stage. Sounds like gallbladder, constipation issues or even like another pp said maybe rib out of place. If it's right under your rib on right side that is gallbladder location and not baby yet
