Should I be concerned ?

I'm 19 weeks now and I have definitely felt baby move around a lot the past couple weeks. The past three days he hasn't moved, or at least not anything I can feel. I have an at home fetal Doppler and I'm able to find a heartbeat, but I can't help but worry. I called my doctors office and they won't see me until Oct. 1. What do you ladies think?

Re: Should I be concerned ?

  • Heartbeat = baby alive.

No reason for doc to see you so calm down.  Most people start truly feeling movement around 20wks depending on placenta placement, body fat, etc.  Babies tend to be less active when we are active.  Later in pg, you'll be told to sit for awhile, drink OJ and be still if you're concerned about fetal movement.

  • I had the same thing happen. Dolce was moving so much it started to get annoying... I even complained about it on UOs last week. And then he was on chill mode the entire weekend. I listened in for him yesterday morning, and found the HB as soon as I but the doppler on my belly. And like clockwork I felt him moving around so much I started to dream about it. And today he has been poking me a bit.

I wouldnt be too worried if I were you. From what I hear, the baby does that from time to time. You will go a few days without big noticeable movements. (until we are a bit further along that is)

  • I wouldn't be worried if you found the HB with Doppler. I've heard a few things can get baby moving like laying on your side, drinking something cold with sugar, ect. Try something like that if it'd make you feel less worried if you could feel movement.

  • I can't even feel the baby move. But, it's in there safe and healthy. I wouldn't be worried!
  • At 20 weeks I've found the movement to be Intermittent. I'll worry but then it starts again.

  • Just asked my Dr. this last week after experiencing the same things. She said not to worry as it's totally normal this early. (I'll be 19 wks tomorrow)
  • With my first pregnancy I had a scare at 22 weeks. I had hurt my back and took a muscle relaxer that the MW told me would be safe. That evening I realized that I hadn't felt baby moving since I had taken the meds. I called the MW's office and was told that even at 22 weeks, I was still to early to worry about how much movement there was. They said they don't expect consistent movement until after 25 weeks.

  • I dont understand why you're worried? Dont go looking for trouble
  • @ruemorgan I'm worried because I'm a FTM and don't have this pregnancy thing down pat. There have been plenty of stories on here where baby seemed fine (heartbeat found) and something was wrong. I'm not looking for trouble but I get nervous. I don't have an attentive doctor or midwife that answers my questions. I haven't been seen by my doctor in almost two months now. I'm glad to know that inconsistent moving is pretty normal at this point. That alone eases my mind.
  • As a pregnant mommy we all have had our moments of scares and worries. With my first pregnancy and this pregnancy I was/am able to feel my baby at 17 weeks on a daily basis. It's probably nothing to be worried about if you can hear the heart beat but if it will help reassure you that everything is ok then go to the Dr. that's what they are there for.
  • This early on...the babies are only awake for about 6 hours of out the day, I wouldn't be worried. Doctors don't start to really suggest movement counting for a couple for weeks.

  • I agree. No reason to worry. Same thing happens to me and I'm 19 weeks. It's totally normal. Just a thought but maybe you should look for a new doctor. Ask for recommendations from family or friends. First doctor I had was awful. Attitude and talked to me like I was stupid every time I had a question. I realize they are busy but your doctor should be attentive enough to answer questions you may have. The one I have now is extremely busy and anything I call for I get a call back within a few hours.
  • Don't worry you have a heartbeat, also around this time babies are start to rest now they're not doing as much flipping and kicking as they once were, but don't worry that won't last either the baby will start kicking very soon and your gonna love it and hate it at the sametime especially when your trying to rest
  • I know that when I went through my first pregnancy, everything scared me. I was super worried, just because I didn't know what to expect. I called my OB ALL. THE. TIME. with worried questions.
If you feel movement one day, and then not feel it the next...and this is your first time, and you don't know everything from A to Z, it's only natural for you to worry. That's normal.
As all the other PPs said, you won't feel consistent movement until about 25 weeks.
    Take deep breaths mama...

I am 19 weeks and 5 days I have felt no movement. I hope the baby is ok. I just feel like cause it's my first I don't know what to feel. I have my 20 wk appointment this Friday so hoping to see the baby wiggling everywhere. Last time I saw the baby was at 8 wks. Existing news is test resukts were negative so that's exciting! Yah for almost to appointment and seeing the baby and hopefully feeling movement
  • With my first child I don't recall feeling movement till around the 20-24 week point. With my second it was a bit earlier but not by much.  With this one, movements started almost 6 weeks ago, but it's not constant.  I felt it most in the early weeks when I had a full bladder. Now I feel it off and on during the day, maybe a few kids here and there. Then around 1am-4am there is a significant amount of jumping around.  Over the course of the last week I've noticed my little tater hasn't been moving around every night, in fact I went two whole days without feeling anything.  I wasn't overly worried, since there is a lot of growing going on, and during growth spurts -- just like after they are born -- LO tends to sleep more.  So I imagine while baby is in the womb going through a growth spurt, since they grow so much over the course of one single week, I am sure there are just days when baby is very still and calm.  I do enjoy feeling my little one bouncing around, but at this point (18 weeks) I'm not too worried if I don't feel LO for a day or two.

  • I'm a worry wart too so can understand where you are coming from!!! I keep telling myself if my OB isn't worried I'm not going to worry! In this case your doctor doesn't seem worried or w would have you come in straight away! I know it's hard not to worry but rust your doc! I'm sure everything will be ok!!
  • Ps of course I still worry about every little thing!!

I was reading that you should keep I kick log and if for some reason activity isn't happening like normal try to lay on your left side to increes blood flow. Try it out! Go away from noise and do this for a hour a day.
