Stay at Home Moms

If your kids go to PREK Half days

How is the rest of your day scheduled?
DD does not nap anymore.  I get her home around 1pm and we have about 4 hours until it is time to start the dinner/bath/bedtime process.

I find that she is super hyper some days and just wants to veg other days.  When I try to get her to do a structured activity (sit and color this picture, or trace this, glue these pompoms) she is not wanting to.  Probably because she did structured activities from 9-1 at school.

So what do you do in the afternoons?

  • We go to the playground for 90 minutes right after school (if the weathers shitty we do the y). We come home, have lunch, veg out in front of the tv for 30 minutes, play in the yard, ride bikes.

  • We do quiet time for an hour and then if I'm feeling inspired we will go to the park. My DS has so so much energy that he really does better if I can just let him run loose for an hour or so in the afternoon. DD's nap schedule is just really effed up due to preschool. She naps 11:30ish-1:30, when I have to wake her up to pick DS up. Then she's ready to nap again at 6, and that's just not happening, so we rush through dinner to get her to bed by 7:15. Dd is 11 months.

  • DD will have napped at school (wonder of wonders!). So we just bust out the books, colors & a video if she wants to. Then again, we eat dinner late & the kiddos don't go to bed until 9pm. So we have a lot of time to kill & lots to do to make them tired again.

My kids are little energizer bunnies so I am right there with you.

  • Ds comes home about 12:15, eats lunch, dd naps then ds either goes outside, plays his toys or watches a movie. Then he naps or attempts quiet time. Then its time to start dinner. After dinner we go outside, or play inside .

  • Oooh 9-1pm really does make it hard to do anything else.  My oldest two are in pre-school, one MWF, the other TTH from 9-11:30am.  We walk there so we do pick up and lunch, free play and then the baby goes down for a nap. I will play a game with them or read, they play outside.  Once a week we have a sports class around 3pm.   They are totally wiped out though afterwards.

If they went til 1pm I wouldn't feel the need to really fill their day with anything else, but freeplay and get ready for dinner.

  • Well I'm lucky because DD has turned out to be an early napper like her brother was. She sleeps 9-11 usually and then we pick DS up at 12:30. We get home about 1:00 and typically DS spends the first 30-45 minutes were home on the couch and usually watching a show. Then we eat lunch and usually head out for library, errands, park, whatever. Because dd naps in the morning any errands get done after school. If we're not home by 4 our whole evening feels rushed and stressful. At 5:00 I start dinner, we eat by 5:30. Then we clean up and if time have a little playtime in DS's room. At 6:00 they go in the bath together.

So most days we are out and about from 2ish to 3/3:0 then we head home.

  • DD goes for 2 half days a week.  Sometimes I may need to run an errand so we do that after I pick her up, otherwise we just go straight home and get ready for lunch.  After lunch, is quiet time and 2 days this week she actually fell asleep during quiet time.  I was able to get more on my list done. After quiet time we usually go play outside until DH gets home.
