I wanted to keep this going since I find it useful to talk to other plus-size moms
How's everyone feeling? Want to chat about weight gain (or lack thereof)?
How about maternity clothes shopping? Not sure if anyone's reached that point yet but I'm curious to hear your strategies.
QOTW: What's your favorite restaurant unique to your hometown? Bonus points for describing your favorite dish! Must have more food porn... I can't get enough!!
Re: *~*~*~*~*Plus Size Check-In*~*~*~*~*
AFM, I'm feeling good. I weighed myself yesterday and was pleased to see I still haven't gained anything yet, though my next appointment is 4 weeks away so I suppose there's time for it to catch up to me. I'm pleasantly surprised that at 15 weeks I'm still relatively the same size as I've always been. I am developing something of a pooch below my belly button. I enjoy running my hands over it at night because I know it's my baby
Anyhoo, I'm going to have to bust out my wallet and go shopping soon. I'm wondering if I should do it online or go to an actual store. I am visiting northwest Indiana soon and they have great clothing stores for bigger ladies - I live in a college town so there are very few options for me here. Wondering if I can hold out for 3 weeks without buying anything... may just order some Bella Bands from Amazon it nothing else, because the only pants that fit comfortably enough are my stretchy jeans.
QOTW: We have a restaurant called Upland Brewing Company and they have *the best* burger in the entire state, I'm convinced of it. They use locally sourced beef and it's always so wonderful and juicy. I like mine cooked medium, washed down with a pitcher of their delicious, delicious wheat beer. I've put a halt on going to Upland during my pregnancy. I can't bear it being around the smell of the beer and watching everyone else enjoy it while I drink my water. I'm having C buy two growlers for our fridge close to my due date so I can pour myself a glass the moment I'm allowed to have it again!!

My mother in law just asked where I wanted to shop for maternity clothes, she's planning to send me a gift certificate, which is really nice of her. I've been using the bella bands on my pants with a hair tie through the button hole. I bust the hair tie today haha, I guess I do need to get some maternity pants!
Food porn, one of my favorite things is from a place called Jules thin crust pizza, it's a slice of their meat #4 - it has chicken, portobello mushrooms, carmelized onions, mozzarella, balsamic bbq sauce and chives. It is my favorite.
I have a question for any plus size 2nd time moms - is their a baby carrier you used that you liked? I have never even tried one on, so I'm not sure if they would even fit differently because of being plus sized. Thanks!
MS is gone as long as I don't take vitamins. Still really tired, but appetite has come back with a vengeance. Have gained back 3ish lbs, still down 10 lbs from starting weight and hoping to keep it that way for a while. Trying to exercise more while weather is still good! And cut down on the amazing carb fest habits from first tri.
Haven't worn jeans in about a week, and am dreading trying them on again. Only the 20 - lbs heavier and bloated pair still fit last week. Am going to check some thrift stores today, but 2x are hard to come by so might have to bite the bullet and buy a pair new.
All the food sounds delicious right now (except meat), but deep dish cheese pizza is calling my name. There was a Giordano's a block from the University in downtown Chicago. If you've never had the pleasure of consuming a deep dish Chicago-style pizza, it's a delicious buttery crust covered in about 2 inches of cheese (mostly mozzarella) and toppings if you want, then topped off with thick tomato sauce and Parmesean cheese. One slice is an entire meal, and probably your entire calorie allowance for the day.
Weight gain/loss: I'm still down almost 30lbs. The good thing is that I've stopped losing. At this point maintaining my weight is the goal.
Maternity clothes: my maternity clothes from almost 6 years ago are too big and are kind of dated. Basically, this brat doesn't like the way they look anymore. That being said, I've only bought three items, but am happy with them! I bought a pair of leggings, a long t shirt, and a pair of jeans. Surprisingly, the plus size maternity jeans from jcpenney.com fit me nicely! I'm tall, so finding jeans with a long enough inseam is always a hassle. I'm not usually a fan of JCP, but I love the jeans!
Food: we have some amazing Mexican restaurants here. I can say one in particular is my favorite because I love them all!
@kaydedid - LOVE Chicago-style deep dish pizza!!!! I was so pissed at my family when we went to Giordano's and they decided we should eat the regular pizza because it's healthier. Fuck that noise! It's not like we're eating Chicago-style pizza every day. Whatever. I'm totally getting some next time I'm in Chicago which will be in a few weeks
I used to live in Chicago and man, do I miss the food. The Italian beef sandwiches? Oh, God. And the Polish dogs? YES!!! Portillo's!!! SO GOOD!!!
Have you ever been to Schubas before? They have the BEST macaroni and cheese I've ever had. And there was this pizza place just down the street from where we lived that was phenomenal. And a Mexican take-out joint that was heaven in a Styrofoam dish. Good lord, the food was amazing. I could go to Chicago for a week and just eat.
I do miss that, but I don't miss city life otherwise.
I was ecstatic when I saw Old Navy had maternity pants but then the 18s don't fit me because I typically wear a 20 in their average sizes. Why don't they go up to 20s in maternity when they go up to 20 in normal jeans? I guess I'll be buying everything at motherhood again.
My favorite local restaurant is hard to pick because we have so many good ones here locally. There's an Irish pub with a Irish burger that I adore. Yum.
@jordanbohr I use a baby hawk, and ergo and a size 7 woven wrap. I am between a 22 in a 24 and I don't need an extender for my ergo but it is as big as it will go. I love a woven wrap because it gives me versatility with different carries and the baby hawk that I have ties which is more forgiving than buckles
Edit for words that were wrong I'm sure there are more I'm trying to feed the munchkin while typing

And thank you, I totally forgot about the Mexican food...I swear the places where no one spoke English were the best, even if you had to send in a Hispanic friend to make sure you got the real deal.
Never did go to Schubas, we mostly stayed around the university and in Pilsen. Thanks for the recommendation - next time we visit, Schubas is on the list!
And UO time, I never really cared for Portillo's. :-O
@kaydedid - where abouts in WI are you? I love visiting Wisconsin! You're right, the beer is amazing. There's a festival that happens every October (Dells on Tap) that C and I love attending but we're not going this year since it would be super sad for me to follow her around while she drank WI's finest beers. I love when they have a booth for Goose Island because they serve their specialty beers (Matilda is my favorite). We are so doing that next year though. And the Indiana festivals. And Pinot Days in Chicago. ALL THE BEER AND WINE!!!!
Fried cheese curds are to die for. We always have them when we're there. And WI does have some awesome burgers and brats. C and I always said we'd live in Wisconsin if we didn't already love Indiana as much, but we visit a few times a year.
Bah, scratch that. I'm not going to Pinot Days next year since it'll be on March 21st. Something tells me the only Pinot I'll be drinking 2 weeks after the birth of my child will from a bottle I add to my collection during my enforced pregnancy sobriety.
Feeling pretty good - feel like my energy is finally coming back! Just went to my doctor yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat on the doppler for the first time at 14 weeks 3 days. I have only gained a pound so far (thank god) I was worried since I was told to only gain 10 pounds the entire time. I have been trying to be healthier with my eating - fruits for snacks and stuff however that didn't stop me from having a hostess cupcake just now with lunch lol.
I did go to target during lunch and got 2 pairs of jeans for $30 and a cute tunic top. I also bought one pair of work pants at destination maternity - luckily my normal work pants and tops are still fitting albeit a little tight - see picture - i think it looks like a bit of a belly that has a baby in it and not just a fat roll (at least i tell myself that)
Well - I we have this awesome mexican restaurant in our town - kinda hole in the wall and they have this dish called the Amada's special - it is amazing. Grilled chicken green peppers and onions smothered in spicy green salsa and covered with cheese - my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
We are in Stevens Point right now, home to the Point Brewery. I have never been on a brewery tour and am properly ashamed of myself. It would be too depressing to go now, though. It is incredibly beautiful up here for the 3 months of decent weather we get a year. It never gets hot for more than a day or two at a time, but on the flip side the snow doesn't melt all winter. Last winter the highest structure in town was the snow pile from plowing downtown - it was 40-50 feet high and as long as as city block. Some of it was still there in June.
How's everyone feeling? Want to chat about weight gain (or lack thereof)?
I'm working really hard to control the weight gain just so my hips can not take any more strain than necessary. (Double hip replacements due to impingement and bone spurs) so I have to be mindful of that. But getting the constant fat shaming from my grandmother in law is really wearing on my nerves. I'm doing great! 5.6 lbs up and I'm 16 wks, I've been steady at or below this for 8 wks so what I'm doing is working just wish she'd leave me alone and believe me when I say my doctor's are fine with where I'm at.
How about maternity clothes shopping? Not sure if anyone's reached that point yet but I'm curious to hear your strategies. I broke down and bought some during that ON sale but I think I bought them too big so they're not as comfortable as I was hoping haha, falling down. For now I'm using the hairband trick and I bought pants one size up from Torrid, and some tops that are 1 size up. Trying to stay stylish but comfortable luckily there have been some decent sales. One thing I'm having some annoying trouble finding is comfortable underwear that doesn't cut off my tummy so I think I may have to break down and go to LB or order something online from somewhere tried some cotton Hanes from Target and man they are just UGLY.

Hometown? Nothing really but! from where I used to live? SO MANY!
Spam musubi with teriyaki or hot mustard MMMMMMMmmmmmmm Pork Katsu, delicious fried, crispy tasty goodness and Shabu Shabu (Japanese hot pot essentially) miso meat dipping sauce, steamed spiced veg.... Sadly not a lot of Asian food where I am at now

@kaydedid - I am in southern Indiana, actually I love it down here. Plus at my job the longer I'm here the more I'm rewarded so it's pretty hard to say goodbye to that. We'll probably just end up visiting Wisconsin a few times a year like we always do.
Looks like you're at the same latitude as Minneapolis, then! Yes, I've heard the winters are severe. Another thing that's stopping us from moving to WI. But the fall is so beautiful up where you are, as is the summer. I can imagine the winters are depressing. Then again, our summers are kind of horrifying. Between the heavy, dense humidity, hot sun, and pollenating trees the air is green and stagnant. Even in the shade it can be unbearably hot. We have maybe 3-4 good weeks of summer where it's 80-85 degrees and low humidity. Otherwise it either swings from hot and muggy to crazy-ass storms and tornadoes. Oh, Indiana.

I need to go buy maternity clothes, and I have no idea where to look. I'm on the bigger end of big and I'm worried that places won't have things that fit. Any suggestions? I've only got about a week left in these jeans.
There is so much delicious food where I live. Notably coming to mind right now is the buttermilk fried chicken at a local place - it comes with green chili gravy which is somehow incredible. We have tons of local breweries and distilleries as well, but alas I cannot enjoy those at the moment.
@Whitfry - Motherhood Maternity goes up to size 26/28 (3X) in their clothes. I'm not sure about places that sell larger maternity clothes but I imagine there are stores online!
Buttermilk fried chicken with green chili gravy? Okay, you have to tell me where you are (at least the general region) so I can try this out!! That sounds divine
Thanks! I don't know if there is a motherhood maternity in my area, but I'll have to check! We have a Lane Bryant where I get most of my clothes, but they don't really do maternity.
I live in North Idaho in a little resort town called Coeur d'Alene. If you're ever in my neck of the woods let me know and I'll take you out! The restaurant is called Seasons. My town is disgustingly gorgeous and amazing, so it's wonderful to visit if you want to get away.
@Whitfry - I don't have a Motherhood in my area either, unfortunately, but I figured I could just buy online. I have a shopping cart going already I'm a fairly solid 2X in most stores so that should probably work fine. Worse comes to worse, I send them back for a different size!
Hey, there's nothing I like more than visiting resort towns! I'll definitely check that out! I've never been to Idaho before. I have this vision of the entire state being covered in potato farms. Then again, you probably picture Indiana as a vast swath of cornfields and soy bean farms. Which is fairly accurate, but we have our fun spots here and there like anyone else Good to know there's more than taters in Idaho!
I am still very tired at 14 weeks, and my uterus has been feeling very full and crampy. Also, I think everything is crammed in there right because my bladder always feels full and almost sore ;/. The nausea is off and on, worse in the morning. I had been losing weight up until a couple weeks ago...then I gained back 2 lbs, and I think that may be a trend. Hopefully sticking to a fairly consistent workout schedule will keep my weight gain to a minimum.
How about maternity clothes shopping? Not sure if anyone's reached that point yet but I'm curious to hear your strategies.
A few weeks ago I bought a couple pair of jeans and some workout pants. My belly is finally starting to show so I will need to wear maternity pants only soon. At work I wear pants with an elastic waist so I don't really need to buy much. I love shopping though so when I can afford to I'm going to find more stuff to wear for when I go out with friends/my husband.

Hmmm...I don't know about unique but one of my favorite restaurants here in Orlando is Thai City. They have really yummy tofu pad thai and my husband loves the tom yum goon soup. They started offering sushi too, and their veggie sushi is pretty good.

As long as you stick to the north part of the state you're golden. There are three gorgeous lakes within ten minutes of my house and a dozen more a little further out. Though most of the potatoes you buy in the stores here are from Washington. But google the town name and you'll see what I mean.
I will have to check out JCP! I had been thinking kohls, but they're so expensive!
How about maternity clothes shopping? Not sure if anyone's reached that point yet but I'm curious to hear your strategies. I am doing eBay, motherhood, and kohls. I have gotten some cute stuff. Waiting for more sweaters so I can do sweaters and leggings though.
QOTW: What's your favorite restaurant unique to your hometown? Bonus points for describing your favorite dish! Must have more food porn... I can't get enough!! We have a great BBQ place (the smoke joint) and great Italian (fratellis) the BBQ has the best bacon green beans in the world and the Italian is just all around good, but I love their pink sauce.
Feeling pretty good in my 15th week. Finally getting some energy back which is nice and food sounds delish again! I lost 10 pounds first tri and it looks like I have put about 3 on so far. Still able to wear most clothes but having to use the bella band every now and then. I finally broke down and found some cheap maternity clothes on clearance at Target. I went to Once Upon A Child and found one thing too. Still need to figure out where the best deals are!
@wishiwaspreggo - I live 20 minutes from Upland and have never been!!! I would have to say Mother Bear's is a great little hole in the wall eatery for the DH and I. Love thwir food!
Hope everyone is doing well
@kaydedid - I'm in Bloomington The only city in the entire state where I actually feel comfortable living in the rest of my life. If shit hits the fan and suddenly the culture changes here, our asses are moving to Wisconsin. Otherwise we'll stay here until we're dead, probably.
@Kisale04 - I love Mother Bear's, too! I tend to favor Aver's when I want pizza myself. OMG, they just opened a pizza buffet for Aver's and it is a-ma-ze-ballz. The pizza is always super hot and fresh and they even have cheese sauce for the breadsticks. I'm going to have to beg C to go with me sometime before her work gets too busy for her to get out and have lunch with me. If she won't, then I'll be happy to go alone sometime. I love eating lunch at restaurants with a book as my companion.
