A healthy glass of red wine?

My doctor said a glass of red wine with dinner is perfectly healthy. Not every night but once or twice a week. What are your thoughts?

Re: A healthy glass of red wine?

  • That's typical in most countries. When I really want a glass, I feel zero shame in having one!

Don't get tipsy, but an occasionally small glass of wine is fine by most doctors' standards.

  • I had one the other night with dessert and it was fantastic.
  • Go for it, it's no big deal.

  • ya i do every so often. Don't do it if you are the type of person who can't stop or likes to feel the alcohol, but if you enjoy the taste with your meal, fine
  • Go for it if you want. I've been having sips here and there and have been content with that. But I know lots of people who have a small glass of wine here and there when they are pregnant!
  • I opened a bottle and it took me over a month to finish it.
  • I had an occasional (like maybe once or twice a month) glass of wine of a beer while pregnant with DD, and I have been with this LO too.

  • I had one this weekend while on my girls getaway. I sat in a fluffy bed and drank a glass of wine, it was glorious!
  • I choose not to have any alcohol during pregnancy, but I'm sure that an occasional glass of wine is fine.

  • Oh here or there... and if we are out to eat, I dont have one, but will taste hubby's. My other app says binge drinking or more than 7 drinks/wk is too much.... they are European :-) I have kept mine well below that line! :-)

  • I have a glass of wine or a pint of beer probably three nights a week. I don't consider it a big deal. I do wonder though if your doctor told you it's fine, why do you need validation from a bunch of women who for the most part do not have medical degrees?

  • No validation needed just a question on other women's options I obviously asked my doctor because I wanted validAdation thanks for your concern tho.

I was just curious. Just seems odd that your only post was a topic known to create controversy on pregnancy boards and wondered why you'd seek the opinion of total strangers when your doctor with a degree gave you an opinion.

  • I don't even know how this really works I was just playing around with it and decided to post something. But don't worry it's my last post don't want to offend anyone else.
  • you don't need a medical degree to determine if alcohol is safe during pregnancy. All you need is a brain and google. Doesn't hurt to post on a forum full of women who also have brains and google, because if there is conflicting data/conclusions, then they will come up.  It's not weird at all to post this.
  • I think a sip or glass here and there is ok.

Maybe I should start a thread about sushi. I think a little (raw fish) sushi is ok, but DH doesn't and sent me a PDF of a bunch of research about it today.
  • While I haven't partaken in alcohol since I found out I was pregnant, I am contemplating enjoying a glass of good red wine to ring in the fabulous new year. Or when labor starts, since I am promising myself to go through this birth naturally... but we'll see.
