Tip photographer?

I feel silly even asking, but do you tip photographers? I've been emailing back and forth with a sister of a friend about taking newborn photos for us. Aside from my wedding, I've never had photos done so I don't know the proper etiquette! TIA

I had always heard that if they are independent/own their own business, then you do not, but if they are part of a larger studio or group, then you do.

also wondering because my friend bought me a newborn session and I feel weird not giving the photographer any money...
