Would you...

Go on vacation with people you didn't know super well? As in charter a boat in the BVIs with people you know but aren't like your best friends?

Re: Would you...

  • How long? just one other couple?

  • The cost and how long would factor in for me.
    Super expensive/long time= probably not.
Otherwise, I may consider it if I like the people.

  • I know them well enough to know we would probably get along and we have similar interests {drinking a lot and playing in the water. ;)} for this trip, but they're not our best friends. It would be a total of 6-8 people on a boat that sleeps 12.
  • So it's a group that just happens to include people you don't know that well? I would. It's like a tiny cruise right? You don't know all those people.....

  • For the type of vacation you are describing, I think it could be a good time.

If it were a traveling, sightseeing type vacation, there is no way.  It's too much work to get everybody up and going with a plan for the day.

  • OK, it goes like this...

Couple A I know because we met once in ATL, became FB friends and then realized we have other friends in common. We've only seen each other twice, but she sent me a baby present to my baby shower, sends me little gifts when she travels places I like {like macarons from Paris!} and we talk every day on FB pretty much. We have very similar taste, interests, etc. She is a host of a lifestyle/travel show that is in development, she's super cool and fun.

Couple B, went to their wedding, she's from the tiny town we live in, grew up here and worked at my husband's law firm when he and I got married. They moved to TX a couple of years ago, so we don't see the regularly obviously, but we'll have a drink when they're in town, talk on FB all the time. DH has known her for years longer than me.

Couple C, we actually do know them very well, some of our closest friends, the husband is DH's patent lawyer and they live around the corner from us at the lake.

Couple B and C know each other from living in the same town, having the same friends. A would get along with B and C I believe, the only wild card being Husband A. BUT, he seems awesome, I just don't know him as well as I do the wife.
  • In that situation, absolutely. It's not like total strangers on a tiny boat. Plus I imagine this boat is big enough that you can find places to escape each other? Or at the very least split up on shore if the togetherness is too much

  • Below Deck is like my favorite show ever!
  • OK, Below Deck is like my favorite show ever as well, but this is not the Ohana. ;) It's a sailing catamaran...like under 50' I believe. But yes, there is enough room to split up and enough alcohol and tiny islands to explore, not to mention beach bars every five feet. ;) I think we would be good. It would be our total vaca budget for the year, so I just want to make sure.
  • Can i come, btw?
    I love drinking and water.

  • Sure, we have two more cabins to fill...it would make it cheaper! :)
  • Yes I would go.
  • I think that sounds fun.

    Jk. Mostly. ;)
  • I seriously wanted to see if I was just so desperate for a vacation that I was considering something crazy. ;) I promise I will be pretty fat on the trip if we go any time soon, so that's like a reverse humblebrag right?
  • I would absolutely go! Sounds like a great trip!

I WISH I had more friends like these three couples! :) I vote YES to go on the trip.

  • No. I don't vacation well with others. This is something I learned through a series of bad vacations. Not everyone has this issue though so it might be fun.

I would go and I too love drinking and water. I even love to drink while in water.
Drinking IN the water is the only way I get in the lake. Especially after the snake incident.
